At the event, Feng Lei, Director of Shanghai Meteorological Bureau and Li Chenhao, Secretary of Baoshan District Party Committee, jointly released the “Wusongkou Sunrise Index”.

It is reported that the “Wusongkou Sunrise Index” is a set of scientific and systematic meteorological models established by the professional team of Baoshan District Meteorological Bureau based on scientific methods and observation data. According to the weather conditions (precipitation), cloud cover, visibility and other key meteorological factors, sunrise viewing conditions are divided into three levels: “Level 1” indicates that the meteorological conditions are excellent for sunrise viewing; “Level 2” indicates that the meteorological conditions are relatively good for sunrise viewing; “Level 3” indicates that the meteorological conditions are bad for sunrise viewing.

Specifically, if the sky in the direction of the sunrise displays a beautiful glow, and more than half of the sun is visible without any haze or obstruction within 30 minutes of sunrise, it is classified as a Level-1 sunrise viewing; if clouds or haze are blocking the sun, only a small portion of the sun or its outline can be seen, and the glow is weak, it is classified as a Level-2 sunrise viewing; if there is thick cloud cover or dense fog, and neither the sun nor the glow is visible, it is classified as a Level- 3 sunrise viewing.

To accurately forecast sunrise, Baoshan Meteorological Bureau adopts numerical weather forecast and intelligent grid forecast technology to judge and comprehensively analyze the three main factors, namely precipitation, cloud cover, and visibility, and obtain the sunrise index of the Wusongkou area in the next three days. The preliminary test forecast accuracy rate can reach about 80%. Tourists can use this data as a reference to learn about the possible sunrise conditions of Wusongkou in the next three days and plan the sunrise observation.

At the event, the “Wusongkou Sunrise Index” was introduced to the public, and the sunrise viewing map of Wusongkou was launched. Besides, the New Year’s Eve activities at Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort were also announced.

To better satisfy the demands for sunrise viewing in the Wusongkou area, Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort has specially launched Sunrise Square, Chasing-Light Road, the riverside platform of Linjiang International Cruise Hotel, Wave Garden, River-view Terrace of Shanghai World, Sea-View Platform, and “One-foot Garden” in Changtan Sightseeing Tower.
