Naming Ceremony for Wusongkou Sunrise Square Held – Welcome to Baoshan Riverside for New Year Sunrise Viewing
On the morning of January 1, the naming ceremony for “Wusongkou Sunrise Square” was held at Shanghai Wusong Paotaiwan National Wetland Park. The ceremony was attended by Cheng Meihong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism and First-Level Inspector; Li Chenhao, Secretary of Baoshan District Party Committee; and Ding Li, Deputy Governor of Baoshan District.
During the ceremony, the officials jointly unveiled the official name, “Wusongkou Sunrise Square.”
Representatives from various industries were appointed as the first Wusongkou Sunrise Ambassadors. These city builders will help convey the unique charm of Wusongkou to a broader audience.
Qin Chang, Sunrise Ambassador and a host of Shanghai Radio Group, live-streamed the first sunrise of the new year at the Baoshan Riverside. Meanwhile, a heartwarming poetry recitation titled Wusongkou Sunrise vividly depicted the magnificent beauty of the sunrise, conveying the themes of hope, vitality, and good wishes embodied by the square.
Situated at Shanghai Wusong Paotaiwan National Wetland Park along the Baoshan Riverside, Wusongkou Sunrise Square is one of the ten special sunrise viewing points in the Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort. It offers an exceptional location for both residents and visitors to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the sunrise and connect with nature.
Wusongkou Sunrise is not only a gift from nature but also a shared cultural treasure for all. Tang Jihui, Vice Chairman of the Baoshan District Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Vice Chairman of the Baoshan District Writers Association, and Sunrise Ambassador, reflected on his childhood New Year tradition of watching the sunrise at Baoshan Riverside. He noted that the rising sun symbolizes good fortune for the year ahead and highlighted the area’s rich literary history, with generations of scholars penning poems celebrating this natural spectacle. Hong Fangling, a “Technology Ambassador” and Director of the Baoshan District Meteorological Science Museum, introduced the Wusongkou Sunrise Index, a scientific meteorological model designed to make planning sunrise visits more convenient.
On New Year’s Day, the Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort also hosted several events, including a themed wellness run, a Citywalk, a sunrise photography contest, and the Changtan Art Festival. These events drew large crowds who gathered to welcome the first rays of the new year.
Currently, the Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort is developing a world-class riverside destination with distinctive international cruise features and a recognizable gateway identity. The Wusongkou Sunrise Viewing initiative marks a new approach to integrating meteorology and tourism along the Baoshan Riverside. In the future, Baoshan plans to introduce additional offerings centered around seasonal events, stargazing, and sunsets, leveraging natural weather resources to foster cultural tourism. Baoshan aims to transform its natural assets into economic benefits by extending visitor stays, enriching waterfront vacation experiences, and amplifying the spillover effect of commerce, tourism, culture, sports, and exhibition.
