The robotics industry, as a cutting-edge sector of future industries, is becoming a new focal point of global technological and industrial competition. Recently, the 2024 World Robot Conference (WRC) was held in Beijing, featuring three components: the World Forum on Robot, the World Robot Expo, and the World Robot Contest. The expo was a highlight, showcasing technological innovations and application achievements. 169 companies presented more than 600 innovative products, with over 60 of them making their debut. Notably, 27 full humanoid robots were also unveiled, setting a new record for the conference.

Among the exhibitors was Shanghai Qingbao Engine Robot Co., Ltd., a Baoshan-based company, showcasing its humanoid robot that is highly human-like in appearance, micro-expressions, and walking movements. This robot has already been used in cultural tourism and industrial scenarios. The model displayed at the expo was connected to a large language model, giving it human-computer interaction capabilities. In cultural tourism settings, the robot is used at exhibitions, showrooms, and large forums to announce award winners, introduce conferences, present company information, and interact with audiences. In industrial settings, it is employed for testing automotive smart cockpits and assisting in flexible production processes on Tier 3 production lines. The company is also exploring its use in the healthcare and elderly care sectors.

Unitree Robotics, which recently signed an agreement with Baoshan, also made an appearance at the WRC, showcasing its consumer-grade quadruped robot Go2 and its wheeled variant, Go2-W, the industrial-grade models B2 and B2-W, as well as the continually upgraded general-purpose humanoid robot H1. A highlight was the debut of the mass-production version of the G1 humanoid agent, originally released in May this year, which captured the attention of the entire audience. Furthermore, Unitree, as a star startup in the sector, secured an investment of nearly RMB 1 billion yuan from Meituan, Goldstone Investment, Source Code Capital, Shenzhen Capital Group, and other existing shareholders in a Series B2 funding round announced in February this year.

During the conference, the 1st China Robotics Venture Capital Summit Forum, the only event focused on robotics investment and financing, took place on August 23. Hosted by Shoucheng Capital, a subsidiary of Shougang Fund, the forum brought together leading robotics investors, authoritative experts and scholars, pioneering entrepreneurs, and well-known industry representatives. The discussions centered around robotics investment, technological innovation, and industrial applications. A key highlight of the forum was the unveiling of the “Top 20 Most Investable Robotics Companies in China”, a list evaluated from multiple dimensions to identify domestic robotics companies with the greatest investment potential, providing an important reference for industry investors. The inaugural forum is not only a gathering of industry elites but also a crucial platform to promote innovation and growth in the robotics industry. Through authoritative guest presentations, diverse topics, and the release of the list, the forum offered participants a wealth of industry information and deep insights.

Notably, Shoucheng Capital played a key role in the establishment of the Beijing Robot Industry Development Investment Fund. With a fund size of RMB 10 billion, it primarily focuses on investments in robot bodies, industrial chain components, and innovative applications in the industry chain, with the goal of accelerating the development of the robotics industry. Looking ahead, Gucun Town in Baoshan District plans to engage in discussions with Shougang Fund and Baoshan SOCI to establish a robotics industry fund.

During the conference, Gucun Town in Baoshan District, Shanghai Industrial Park of Robotics, and Baoshan District’s investment promotion team, in collaboration with Panorama Capital, conducted a series of targeted investment promotion activities. These activities, involving nearly 100 people from both the district and town levels, focused on humanoid robot embodied intelligence and key components. Initial contacts were made with nearly 100 companies, including Sichuan Tianlian Robot Co., Ltd. (humanoid and collaborative robots), Suzhou Micro Actuator Technology Co., Ltd. (servo actuators), Reach Machinery Co., Ltd. (harmonic reducers), Wuxi We Harmony Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (harmonic reducers and robot systems), and Zhongke Guiji (Nanjing) Robotics Co., Ltd. (general-purpose humanoid dexterous robots). Moving forward, Baoshan will strengthen communication and coordination with these companies to facilitate the settlement of high-quality enterprises and resources from across the industrial chain in the district.

With a focus on fostering and developing new quality productive forces, Baoshan will transform its investment promotion concepts, optimize the investment environment, and increase policy support, aiming to attract more high-quality robotics companies, particularly those specializing in humanoid robots, to jointly promote the high-quality development of the robotics industry.
