2024 Shanghai Cruise Port International Regatta opens shortly
Grand sails are fully prepared to embark on the expansive waters of the majestic Huangpu River. The high-profile 2024 Shanghai Cruise Port International Regatta will commence at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal on May 17th and extend until the 19th. The 3-day event will feature J/80-class sailboats and will draw in 24 top sailing teams from both domestic and international locations. The participating teams will engage in intense competition amidst the waters of the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, vying for honor and pursuing their dreams. This spectacle promises to deliver a captivating fusion of sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and tourism, offering the audience a truly immersive visual experience.
The event is jointly sponsored by China Yachting Association, Shanghai Administration of Sports, and Baoshan District People’s Government, and organized by Baoshan District Riverside Management Committee, Baoshan District Sports Bureau, and Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal Development Co., Ltd. Additionally, it has received strong support from the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the Shanghai Yachting Association, the Shanghai Branch of the Yangtze River Shipping Public Security Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, Baoshan Maritime Safety Administration, Baoshan Customs, and Pujiang Frontier Inspection Station. During the years since its launch in 2019, the event has become a shining star in the yachting industry. By now, it has grown into an international and market-oriented sports event with brand effects, which attracts the attention of outstanding yachters from all over the world. In 2024, the event has been officially included in the China Yachting Association Keel Yachting Ranking Events.
Here, by leveraging the event as a medium and incorporating culture-tourism integration as a key objective, we aim to showcase the magnificence of the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, a pearl adorning the bank of the Yangtze River, offers an exceptional venue for this event due to its unparalleled natural setting. The 1,600-meter wharf shoreline, elegantly curving and extending like a majestic dragon, is ready to welcome yachting athletes from across the globe. The competition water area spans over 600,000 square meters with a depth of 9 meters, offering ample space to challenge the players. Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal is affiliated to Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal Development Co., Ltd., a joint venture established by China Changjiang Shipping Group Co., Ltd. And Shanghai Wusongkou Development Co., Ltd. The terminal’s berthing volume and tourist reception volume are ranked as the highest in Asia and fourth globally, solidifying its position as the most influential international cruise home port in China.
To enhance the allure of cruise culture for tourists, a comprehensive upgrade project is set to transform the cruise riverside belt effective September 30th of this year. The renovations will encompass a fresh aesthetic for the riverside area and introduce a cohesive thematic approach infused with expressive cultural elements throughout the cruise terminal, including the waiting hall, entry and exit channels, and other key areas. This initiative aims to eloquently tell China’s stories well while integrating traditional cultural features, thereby enriching the cultural voyage experience for cruise tourists along their embarkation and disembarkation pathways. Leisure Cycling Road at Baoshan cruise riverside area, riverside stations, child-friendly and pet-friendly supporting facilities and others will comprehensively improve the public space of the cruise riverside area and attract more tourists.

On the event day, there will be exhilarating water surfing demonstrations on the river, complementing the thrilling yachting competition. On the shore, a diverse array of activities will take place concurrently, including intense deep-sea boxing matches, lively riverside holiday life festivals, vibrant performances, and captivating waterfront shows. This multifaceted lineup promises to deliver a comprehensive and engaging viewing experience for the audience.
