Baoshan, once an old industrial base, has unique advantages in industrial tourism resources. The recently opened Shanghai Baosteel Park in Baoshan features over 20 attractions, each offering unique highlights and serving as fabulous photogenic spots. Come along and take a look!

Shanghai Baosteel Park (No.1900 Mudanjiang Road, Baoshan District)

As the birthplace of Baosteel, a subsidiary of China’s largest steelmaker Baowu, the site stands as a world-class fully integrated mega steel production facility and a modern urban steel mill with a unique garden-style design.

Situated within the Baoshan base of Baosteel that spans 21 square kilometers, Baosteel Park boasts over 20 scenic attractions such as Bull Flower Field, Baosteel Honor Forest, Original Aspiration Furnace, and Roaring Hot Rolling. The destination offers visitors an innovative journey into the steel industry beyond mere sightseeing, inviting them to delve into the culture, industrial legacy, and garden aesthetics of Baosteel’s Baoshan base from various angles.

Correct Square

The Correct Square, centered around Comrade Deng Xiaoping’s speech and set against the backdrop of an urban steel mill landscape, employs the design concept of “Gate of Wisdom” to showcase Baosteel’s grand vision of striving to “make the world a better place with steel” under the guidance and inspiration of the CPC Central Committee. The main sculpture, standing at 19.78 meters in height, serves as a commemoration of Baosteel laying its first pile in 1978.

Party Education Smart Experience Center

The Party Education Smart Experience Center functions as both a base for Party education and a gathering place for Party members. Positioned as an innovative hub for Party building, it upholds the mission of “seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation” and offers one-stop daily education services for primary-level Party organizations. It stands as an important venue for Party members to reaffirm their original aspiration to advance the steel industry and a source of wisdom and strength for them to drive progress.

Baosteel History Museum

The Baosteel History Museum, renovated from the former Baosteel Engineering Command building, was finalized and opened to the public in late December 2008. The museum preserves the footprints of Baosteel’s construction and development and bears witness to its journey amidst the reform and opening-up era. By showcasing Baosteel’s extraordinary development trajectory and capturing precious historical moments, it vividly depicts the challenging yet thrilling chapters of Baosteel’s history.

Original Aspiration Train Cafe

The Original Aspiration Train and the surrounding sculptures vividly recreate the fervent scenes of workers, peasants, and soldiers from across the country rushing to Shanghai to assist in the construction of Baosteel during its early stages. Baosteel remains committed to its original aspiration of serving the country through steelmaking, actively assumes social responsibilities, and endeavors to illuminate every corner with enlightenment. The cafe on the train meticulously selects coffee beans from Ninger in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, which exudes flavors reminiscent of distant mountains and forests, demonstrating Baosteel’s unwavering support for the revitalization of the Yunnan coffee industry.

Time Station

The Time Station showcases the past and present of Baosteel Station, which consists of two sections: the platform park and the smart cultural park. Built on the principle of respecting history while adding modern elements, it serves as a trendy photo spot that integrates historical and cultural heritage, leisure, and creative experiences, inspiring the new generation of Baosteel people to move forward with enthusiasm.

The Leisure Lotus Garden is an ecological paradise with verdant greenery, rippling waters, misty surroundings, and playful fish swimming among lotus leaves. It encapsulates Baowu’s cultural ethos of “having money, leisure and fun”, reflecting Baosteel people’s aspirations for a better life. By presenting this ideal lifestyle, it seeks to bolster the sense of achievement, belonging, and happiness among Baosteel people.

Steel-based Wisteria Passage

The Steel-based Wisteria Passage is a green corridor embellished with wisteria twining around steel frames repurposed from old gas and steam pipelines. This symbolizes the Baosteel people’s commitment to the values of hard work, science, and practicality. It is their ability to turn waste into treasure and decay into wonder that contributes to the transformation of Baosteel into a garden-style, environmentally-conscious steel plant.

Baosteel Zoo

The Baosteel Zoo houses animals such as sika deer, blue peafowl, and pigeons that serve as indicators for environmental monitoring. The quality of the environment is closely related to their survival and reproduction. Over the past 30 years, the healthy breeding of these animals at Baosteel vividly illustrates the harmonious coexistence of this modern urban steel mill with nature.

Riverside Landscape Corridor

On one side of the Riverside Landscape Corridor lies the vast Yangtze River, which bears witness to the birth of Baosteel and the arduous journey of Baosteel people in serving the nation through steelmaking. On the other side stands a high-end, intelligent, green, and efficient modern garden factory, showcasing the fruitful achievements of Baosteel’s technological innovation and high-quality development; The towering factory buildings juxtaposed with the rushing waters of the Yangtze River reflect Baosteel’s firm confidence and strong determination in building a world-class enterprise.

Baosteel Honor Forest

In 2011, model workers honored with top accolades from Baosteel, including the Golden Bull Award and other prestigious honors, planted trees here for the first time. Year after year, the forest has flourished. Baosteel aims to commemorate outstanding contributors to the company’s development in this manner, while inspiring future generations to strive for excellence and achieve greater success through the power of role models.

Blue not only portrays the vision of the steel mill, but also embodies the essence of wisdom and efficiency. It introduces a fresh, intelligent perspective on lighthouse factories and optimal production environments, demonstrating the collective aspirations for the steel mill’s future.

Original Aspiration Furnace (No.1 Blast Furnace Memorial Plaza)

On December 23, 1978, Baosteel laid the first pile for the construction of the No.1 blast furnace. In 2008, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Baosteel’s establishment, a memorial plaza was specially constructed. It features the original charging bell and a section of tuyere introduced from Nippon Steel, symbolizing the “golden age” of sincere collaboration between Baosteel and Nippon Steel and signifying the continuous flow of molten iron in Baosteel.

Original Aspiration Furnace (No.2 Blast Furnace Viewing Platform)

Put into operation in June 1991, Baosteel’s No.2 blast furnace now enters its third generation of service, boasting a capacity of 4,706 square meters and an annual output of approximately 3.8 million tons of molten iron. In 2020, the second major overhaul was conducted for technical upgrades, integrating a plethora of intelligent equipment and new energy-saving, environmentally-friendly technologies. This high-end, intelligent, green, and efficient transformation positions the furnace as a new benchmark in the steel industry.

Roaring Hot Rolling (2050 Production Line)

Put into operation in August 1989, the 2050 Hot Rolling Production Line was China’s first continuous hot rolling mill capable of producing strips with a width of over two meters. Renowned as the “golden production line”, it presently boasts an annual production capacity of 6 million tons. Various steel products manufactured by this line find extensive application in large-scale projects such as the National Stadium, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Donghai Bridge and the Yangshan Port.

Premium Cold Rolling

Baosteel’s 1730 cold rolling line, also known as the SMARTeX Factory, stands as one of the world’s most advanced cold rolling lines. It comprises the C502 Smart Rolling Line and the C008 Dark Factory. Leveraging generational advantages and aiming for high-quality development, the SMARTeX Factory embodies a safe, efficient, and intelligent cold rolling production unit characterized by “fewer personnel, centralized control, and one-touch operation”.

Core Silicon Steel (Fifth Smart Factory)

The Fifth Smart Factory of Baosteel’s Silicon Steel Business Unit (Silicon Steel Division), completed and put into operation in March 2023, is the world’s first high-grade non-oriented silicon steel production line tailored for the new energy vehicle industry. With the technology developed and integrated entirely by Baosteel, the factory has the capacity to supply high-grade non-oriented silicon steel materials for approximately 4 million new energy vehicles annually, thereby reducing carbon emissions by 3.6 million tons.

Smart Highland

Smart Highland, serving as a pioneering hub for logistics talents empowered by intelligence, offers a panoramic view of the Riverside Landscape Corridor. From here, one can enjoy the sight of the rushing Yangtze River and observe the smart logistics operations at the All-weather Wharf, experiencing the excellence of Baosteel’s smart warehousing and intelligent transportation.

Unmanned Warehouse

Put into use in April 2018, the Unmanned Warehouse that spans 60,000 square meters was the largest unmanned intelligent warehouse for finished products in China at the time. Inside, there are three spans, each equipped with two 40-ton overhead cranes, with a designed annual turnover of 2.53 million tons. Additionally, one outdoor span is equipped with two 45-ton overhead cranes, with a designed annual turnover of 680,000 tons.

All-weather Wharf

The All-weather Wharf is the first large-scale all-weather berth in the domestic steel industry and an important component of the 10 million-ton hub port at the Yangtze River estuary. Its outer berth can simultaneously accommodate a 50,000-ton-class vessel and a 5,000-ton-class vessel, while its inner berth serves as an all-weather boathouse for 5,000-ton-class ships. Positioned as a “zero-carbon smart port”, the wharf integrates the new development pattern into its transformation and upgrade. The electricity required for the wharf is primarily generated from solar and wind power in the area, underscoring Baosteel’s unwavering commitment to green and low-carbon development.
