Opening of Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Museum
A New Reading Landmark in North Shanghai Decorates Lake Meilan

On September 10, the country’s first children literature themed museum Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Museum opened on the shore of Meilan Lake in Luodian Town, Baoshan District. On the shore of Meilan Lake, Dayin Bookstore also officially welcomed guests.

As soon as the opening, the museum became very popular. The reading area was full of parents and children who came to experience the joy of reading. Children either read alone or listen to their parents reading and telling stories, enjoying the cherishing and cosy time of reading end accompanying.

Luodian Town is the hometown of Mr. Chen Bochui. The Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Museum, which landed on the shore of Lake Meilan, is based on Mr. Chen Bochui’s literature creation sentiment for children -- “writing great literature for little kids”. It is a comprehensive theme library integrating “reading experience + document display + creative research”.

The museum has a themed exhibition area for the Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Award, a special area for Chen Bochui’s works, a special area for winning works of previous Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Awards, a special area for winning works of the Global Outstanding Children’s Literature Award, as well as various excellent children’s literature works from home and abroad, etc., and provides more than 50,000 borrowable books throughout the year. In the future, reading experience events such as “Children’s Literature Reading Club”, “Children’s Story Club”, and “Children’s Literature Creation Workshop” will be held regularly.

Dayin Bookstore, the largest bookstore in Shanghai and the first family-style reading lifestyle themed bookstore in Shanghai opened at the same time. The Bookstore creates a composite business integrating “book reading + music education + life aesthetics + theme catering”.

As special events during the opening season, Ye Xin’s new sharing session of “Love and Marriage” series -- Lian Shang and children’s reading and family language education -- “Tan Xudong Series Books” reader meeting also kicked off for the bookstore’s next 100-plus cultural events.

“We settle down the bookstore in the building with the largest single building area at the core of the Lake Meilan area to create a cultural benchmark for Baoshan, providing people with a place for cultural exchange and leisure, and improve the quality of life for surrounding residents, bringing them the convenience of a 15-minute public cultural life circle.” Introduced by the director of Luodian Town Planning, Construction, and Ecological Environment Office.

It is reported that the bookstore was jointly built by the Luodian Town People’s Government and Shanghai Dayin Bookstore Co., Ltd. The project is located in the town of Meilan Lake, with a construction area of about 2,500 square meters. The store focuses on reading, and has selected 100 key publishing houses across the country for readers, providing more than 60,000 books on the shelves, focusing on parent-child families, and selecting more than 30 global brands and more than 3,000 world-renowned IP peripheral products including Disney, Warner, Pokémon, the Little Prince, Peter Rabbit, and Bandai.

At the same time, to fully consider the needs of the surrounding people, Dayin Bookstore also introduced chocolate workshops, Austrian century-old coffee brand “Julius Meinl Little Red Riding Hood”, and worked with Yamaha piano to create the “Dayin Music Center” and other businesses to provide surrounding families and readers with more diverse cultural experiences and consumption possibilities.

In the future, the “Shanghai University Children’s Literature Research Centre”, jointly planned by the School of Liberal Arts of Shanghai University, the People’s Government of Luodian Town, and Dayin Book Company, will also be established, which will contribute to the museum’s future theoretical research, work creation, and reading events on children’s literature, contributing to the development and growth of children’s literature in Shanghai.

The project will also take advantage of Dayin Bookstore’s cultural resource integration advantages to hold more than 100 cultural events throughout the year such as music education, children’s reading, art popularization, parent-child events, theme exhibitions, etc., to promote a new trend of national reading and create an integrated habitation for “children’s literature, global goodies, and parent-child events”.
