This weekend, the Shanghai Book Fair is in full swing, and as an event held in the branch venue of Baoshan District, the Baoshan Reading Month series activities themed “Encounter with Childlike Delight” are also brilliant and fascinating, bringing a unique experience to the citizens. More than 40 reading activities in this series were launched specially for children to read in the main venue of Wisdom Bay Creative Park.

Enjoying your childhood: Encounter with music festivals and cultural bazaars hidden in the creative park

“The banyan tree beside a pond, crickets were singing the ballad of summer...” The song Childhood rang out in the Xiangji Music Square of Wisdom Bay Creative Park, opening the prelude to the Sticky Rice Party (SRP) in the “Jigen Era” of Xiangji Music Festival. Later, the children sang lilting nursery rhymes such as “Dok Dok Dok, Ma Dhang Zok...” and “Row, Row, Row Your Boat to the Grandma Bridge...”, recalling their childhood and “encountering with childlike delight” in the melody of these songs. On the spot, Baoshan Library launched an innovative Childlike Delight · Book Culture Bazaar, which brought together featured books, intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, interactive experience, and the cultural and creative products of “Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Award”, embarking on a novel cultural journey in the trunk of the car.

Childlike delight in reading: Qin Wenjun brings you back to the story of “the boy Jia Li”

Qin Wenjun, winner of the Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Award, and Dai Yingniao, a young writer, were invited to the Arts Bridge Space in Wisdom Bay. The two writers shared their landmark campus novel in the history of children’s literature named Biography of the Boy Jia Li as a recommended reading book, revealing how to give the right guidance to children in their growth process. Readers are thus given the opportunity to relive classic stories and feel the power of reading and writing in a space full of art and creativity.

In addition, 45 groups of families participated in illustration classes, storytelling sessions, plant identification and other parent-child activities in shared bookstores in Haoyao Sci-Tech Innovation Center, Wisdom Bay Creative Park, and Gucun Park. There are professional teachers on site to cultivate children’s interest in reading, lead parents and their children to explore nature, and stimulate children’s imagination and curiosity through various forms.

Lighting up your childlike heart: Create with the “picture book magicians”

Taking the Shanghai Book Fair as an opportunity, Baoshan Library launched an online quality reading activity called “Picture Book Creation with Composers”. Within a week, 11 picture book creators, including Xu Yu’an, Yu Wan and Yang Bo, were invited to share their works with readers online. At the same time, Baoshan Library utilized the Internet to push this season’s activity named “Picture Book Creation with Composers” to the Karamay Library and Yecheng Library in Xinjiang, thus boosting the cultural construction and integration of the two places by delivering high-quality reading and cultural resources to the frontier.

Keep your childlike innocence alive: Let the books infiltrate the Shanghai Farm Office Community Library

To support the cultural development of farms outside Shanghai’s territory, Huang Yingzhao, winner of Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Award, will walk into the Shanghai Farm Office Community Library of Haifeng Community Management Committee during the Shanghai Book Fair to share literature and writing with young readers, sow the seeds of reading, and stimulate their creativity.

In addition, the popular children’s storytelling session named “Flowers’ Classroom” will also be held as scheduled at the Shanghai Farm branch library. Mr. Wu Binrong, Vice Chairman of Baoshan Writers Association, will share the picture book Dear Child in the form of storytelling and interactive Q&A. Starting from the children’s whims, the session will allow each child to explore his/her own unique personality as well as provide adults with insights into their children’s inner world, thus facilitating the construction of parent-child relationship.

More than 40 reading activities comprehensively covered the sci-tech innovation parks, community venues, public reading spaces, etc. in Baoshan, showing the popularity of the “All People Reading” campaign and boosting the high-quality development of nationwide reading.
