The stainless steel blast furnace zone, located on Changjiang Road, is a time-honored industrial base in Shanghai. It used to be the Wusong Workshop of Riya Steel Factory, built in 1938. For the purpose of urban renewal and development, 4 years ago, the factory stopped producing liquid iron in blast furnace and stepped on the road of transformation. On April 27, Baoshan District held a ceremony to initiate the start of construction for China Baowu Steel Exhibition and Expo Center. This is the first project marking the transformation of the stainless steel land parcel in Wusong area. Chen Derong, chief of Party Committee and chairman of China Baowu Steel Group, Wang Hong, chief of Baoshan District Party Committee, Chen Jie, deputy chief of Baoshan District Party Committee and district governor and Wang Yiqun, standing member of Baoshan District Party Committee and deputy governor of Baoshan District, attended the commencement ceremony.

The commencement ceremony for China Baowu Steel Exhibition and Expo Center and the initiation ceremony for the symbol of the event: “Steel Glory, Dream of 100 Years” was held in front of the 2,500-cubic-meter stainless steel blast furnace. Chen Derong, chief of Party Committee and chairman of China Baowu Steel Group, on behalf of Baowu Steel Group, expressed heartfelt thanks to Baoshan people for their support and assistance to the transformation and upgrading of the steel industry in Shanghai. He said that Baowu Steel Group, as a pioneer of structural reform on the supply side of the iron and steel industry, actively responds to the call of the Party and the country, promotes the transformation and upgrading of iron and steel industry and realizes high quality development. Baowu Steel Group will join hands with Baoshan District and accelerate to construct Wusong  Innovation City into a new benchmarking of urban construction, a new industrial center and a model of city-industry integration.

Wang Hong, chief of Baoshan District Party Committee, on behalf of Baoshan District Party Committee and Baoshan District Government, congratulated the starting of construction for China Baowu Steel Exhibition and Expo Center. She said that Wusong Industrial Zone is a zone for transformation covering the largest area in Shanghai and having the best condition and the most completed supporting facilities. This project is not only an important milestone for China Baowu Steel Group to expand its global influence, but also the best starting point for the transformation and upgrading of Wusong Industrial Zone.

Later, the officials stepped on the stage and pushed the rod, and announced the starting for the construction of China Baowu Steel Exhibition and Expo Center.

China Baowu Steel Exhibition and Expo  Center is renovated from a 2,500-cubic-meter stainless steel blast furnace in the former stainless iron factory of Baosteel Group. This is a symbolic project for the structural adjustment, transformation and upgrading of China Baowu Steel Group. It also aims to be an experiencing and exhibition center of China’s steel culture, Baowu Group’s brand culture and the overall planning of Wusong Innovation  City. The architecture has modern and magnificent façade, broad indoor space and is integrated with the main structure of the blast furnace. This project will be completed in October this year. After completion, it will be a venue for holding events and cultural exhibitions, a symbolic building in the northern region of Shanghai and a venue of cultural activities beloved by Shanghai citizens.

In the future, the blast furnace and surrounding areas will become a park featuring the ruins of blast furnace, commercial areas and venue of cultural exhibition and performance that highlights the feature of life and the sense of future, promotes cultural consumption and cultural production, cultivates an ecological circle of industry and becomes a model of opening renovation of iron and steel factory in the world and an exhibition center of China’s iron and steel culture. A Shanghai Zhi-qu-shang-you Xin-tian-di and a Baowu Cultural  Brand Park will also be built here.
