Primary school students have designed a concept car.

A competition for young makers was held over the weekend at Shanghai Popular Science Park in Baoshan District.

In one competition, participants were required to use virtual money to buy materials from a “shop” before creating new designs, testing not only their creativity, but also their financial nous.

In another — Maker Carnival — the young makers designed applications, clothing, cars and installations that can be triggered by the movements of a golf ball. It tested knowledge and practical skills ranging from design through digital processes to craftsmanship. 

With the ideas of “life is education” and “technology makes life better,” the competitions allowed students to demonstrate creativity, academic prowess and teamwork.

Visitors were also invited to try their hand at making creative things.

The organizers released two books on how to turn classic classroom activities and courses into maker resources, based on the experiences of science teachers in the city.

The event was organized by the Shanghai Education Center of Science and Art and Shanghai Maker Education Union.
