Baoshan is accelerating urban renewal and transformation to create space for emerging and high-tech industries. It is introducing major functional platforms, such as general robotics and low-altitude economic research institutes, to enhance its scientific and technological innovation capabilities. Embracing a green philosophy and an open, innovative approach to global connections, Baoshan District is actively advancing the “three areas” of Wusong, Nanda, and Binjiang. As a result, urban development is gaining momentum, and industrial growth is once again thriving.

Wusong: The “dual-core” strategy leading the way, driving greener and more dynamic growth.

Wusong Innovation City, once an industrial hub, is now brimming with new vitality. From an industrial layout perspective, Wusong Innovation City forms a dual-core structure with the Baoshan Railway Station area of the northern high-speed railway and the central science and technology innovation headquarters, positioning itself as a “science and technology innovation pilot area.” Here, core industries such as new materials, environmental protection and low-carbon technologies, intelligent manufacturing, scientific and technological transformation, new energy, medical devices, headquarters economy, trade logistics, and next-generation information technology take center stage. The integration of internal and external resources and demand will propel the region’s transformation toward scientific and technological services, R&D, and intelligent manufacturing.

To optimize the industrial layout, Wusong Innovation City has established emerging industrial clusters in specialized metal materials such as high-performance steel, biomedical R&D and manufacturing, and intelligent robot manufacturing. These efforts aim to steer industries toward high value-added and high-tech development.

For example, in the Special Steel Pilot Start-up Zone, key construction projects are underway to develop a Carbon Neutral Industrial Park focused on green and low-carbon industries. Leveraging its strengths in new materials, intelligent manufacturing, and new energy, the Zone serves as a core hub for Baoshan District’s North Transformation, driving scientific and technological innovation. Since last year, Baoshan has been advancing the construction of a green and low-carbon supply chain within the Carbon Neutral Industrial Park. Centered around the Baowu (Shanghai) Carbon Neutral Industrial Park as the core functional area, Baoshan has established a public service platform for the green and low-carbon supply chain, further strengthening the ecosystem of green and low-carbon industries. Leveraging Baowu’s existing resources, Baoshan aims to establish a full-chain industrial space—from R&D and innovation to achievement transformation and industrialization—spanning from south to north, injecting green momentum into regional development.

Nanda: Speeding up the concentration of cutting-edge intelligent industries.

When it comes to Nanda Smart City, it is well-known to many. State-owned enterprises like CRRC Assets and China Construction Port and Navigation Bureau Group Co., Ltd., as well as listed companies and leading firms such as Jieruiken and Tecorigin, have all established a presence in Nanda Smart City. This has fostered a continuous surge of vitality in scientific and technological innovation. Recently, the Shanghai University–Baoshan District General Intelligent Robotics Research Institute was officially inaugurated. Jointly established by Baoshan District, Shanghai University, and Unitree Robotics, the institute, along with the Unitree Asia-Pacific R&D Center, will focus on embodied intelligence and humanoid robotics. It aims to foster industry-academia-research collaboration, creating an innovation platform and a hub for the advancement of the intelligent robotics industry.

Nanda Smart City is actively advancing strategic emerging and future industries while introducing major functional platforms, such as general robotics and low-altitude economy research institutes, to comprehensively enhance the level of technological innovation. At the same time, it has partnered with Lingang Group to drive development in the digital economy and establish the “Digital Intelligence Nanda” industrial park. With a focus on software services, chip design, and artificial intelligence, the park has attracted over 800 enterprises. Additionally, Nanda Smart City is intensively cultivating the life sciences industry, taking the lead in establishing a synthetic biology industrial park. By unlocking the potential of industrial spaces from research to application—spanning life sciences, synthetic biology, and biomedicine—it is injecting new vitality into regional development.

Binjiang: Green, open, and globally connected for a brighter future.

The mighty Yangtze River spans thousands of miles, while Wusong carries a century of history. Wusongkou Terminal has become a hub for numerous cruise operation headquarters, including China Cruises, CSSC Cruises, AIDA Cruises, MSC Cruises, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Travel Agency. Embracing a spirit of openness and innovation, it is evolving into a global gateway connecting the world.

Wusong Paotaiwan National Wetland Forest Park was once a steel slag yard but has now been transformed into a public park at the Yangtze River estuary, providing a scenic and relaxing destination for residents. The 6-kilometer riverside coastline was completed last year, making it the most scenic stretch along the Yangtze River for leisure cycling.  Baoshan Binjiang has also partnered with the Green River Environmental Protection Association to establish the “Yangtze River No. 11” themed post office and has launched a series of initiatives focused on Yangtze River conservation. Renowned companies such as Apple, Louis Vuitton, Meituan, and Alibaba have also joined forces to contribute to the ecological protection of the Yangtze River. Green has become the warmest and most beautiful backdrop in Baoshan Binjiang.

This year, Baoshan Binjiang will accelerate the investment and operation of Long Beach CDFG Harbour City, along with several other projects, including the renovation of Long Beach Sightseeing Tower and the Estuary Science and Technology Museum of Yangtze River. These efforts aim to continuously enhance the public spaces and environmental quality of the resort area. At the same time, Baoshan Binjiang also launched the characteristic brand of “Wusongkou Sunrise Index” to create the first stop for inbound consumption of Chinese cruise ships, showing the unique charm and development potential of Baoshan Binjiang.
