On a sunny morning, runners weaving through the forest create a breathtaking early spring scene, with cherry blossoms dancing in the breeze. On the early morning of March 9, 2025, the Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival–Women’s 10km Classic kicked off in the romantic and vibrant Gucun Park.

The opening ceremony was held at 7:15 a.m., as the athletes warmed up to rhythmic music and set off with great anticipation.

Song Hui, member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of Shanghai Administration of Sports, Wang Jianzhang, member of the Party Group and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Women’s Federation, Ding Li, deputy head of Baoshan District, and other leaders announced the official start of the competition, holding high their right arms and honking the horn. As soon as the salute fired, nearly 3,500 runners set off amid falling cherry blossoms, embarking on a 10-kilometer journey.

The fastest runner of the race dashed across the finish line in just 36 minutes and 46 seconds. And other runners completed the 10 kilometers one after another, leaving their footprints in the spring of 2025.

Gucun Park can be said to be the most beautiful and romantic cherry blossom track, where petals drift down with the spring breeze. The semi-isolated track design not only ensures runner safety but also brings the event closer to visitors, allowing morning exercise tourists to cheer enthusiastically and provide continuous motivation to the runners. The event was not only a grand showcase of women’s athleticism and charm but also a citywide carnival that engaged all citizens.

It was thoughtfully designed around a women’s theme, and runners also received a well-curated gift package. Participants also received exclusive custom sets sponsored by INOHERB and FLORAFIT, helping them radiate natural beauty from the inside out. Additionally, the race bibs featured runners’ birthday numbers, and those celebrating their birthday on the event day had their names announced on-site, adding to their joy. After the race, runners proudly received finisher medals featuring female runners and cherry blossom elements—a perfect tribute to their hard work and perseverance.

This competition actively fosters the deep integration of sports with local cultural tourism, commerce, and other resources, offering contestants exclusive discounts at partner hotels and businesses. At the same time, the organizing committee further optimized the cherry blossom track, ensuring it met the China Athletics Federation’s standards for road running while also being surrounded by the stunning cherry blossoms. Several medical and supply stations were strategically placed along the route to address the players’ needs and safeguard their health at all times. The event also attracted over 100 international participants and more than 2,000 players from other provinces and cities.
