Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) Science Popularization Education Base in Baoshan District
Recently, the “Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) Science Popularization Education Base” was officially established in the Baosteel Park Tourist Center. This honor is a recognition of the Park’s working ability in science popularization and also an incentive for future innovative development.
The Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) Science Popularization Education Base aims to strengthen the construction of science popularization education base in the field of metallurgy and materials and promote the popularization of scientific knowledge in the field of metallurgy and materials. Baoshan Hotel of China Baowu Steel Group actively integrates the resources in the park .Recommended by China Baowu Steel Group, it participated in the application and selection in 2024. After research and evaluation and through the approval by voting at the seventh session of the eleventh standing council of Chinese Society for Metals (CSM), Baosteel Park was rated as one of the 13 science popularization education bases of Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) in 2024.
Exploring the World of Steel
The Baoshan base of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Baosteel) is the birthplace of Baosteel. It is also a world-leading full-process extra-large steel production base and a modern garden-style urban steel mill. As a demonstrator and leader of green, high-quality and intelligent steel industry in China, Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Baosteel) was opened to the public as an industrial tourism site in Shanghai in 2002 and was rated as one of the first batch of national industrial tourism demonstration sites in 2004.
Baosteel Park is located in the Baoshan base of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Baosteel) With the brand slogan of “Baosteel, Beyond Your Vision!”, the Park allows tourists to immerse themselves in the humanistic style, industrial style and park style of the Baoshan base and to experience a steel industrial journey that is more to them than meets the eye by constructing an industrial tourism product system with “three halls”, “four corridors”, “five sights” and “six views” as the core from multiple dimensions such as red memory, blue intelligent manufacturing and green ecology.
Baosteel History Exhibition Hall
The Baosteel History Exhibition Hall was completed and opened at the end of December 2008 after its renovation and reconstruction on the basis of the former site of Baosteel engineering headquarters. The hall records the footprints of Baosteel’s construction and development, witnesses Baosteel’s progress along with reform and opening up and vividly shows Baosteel’s extraordinary development course and precious historical moments and its arduous and eventful years of trials and hardships.
Party Consciousness Intelligence Experience Center
The Party Consciousness Intelligence Experience Center focuses on the functional positioning of Party consciousness education base, Party member activity venue and Party building innovation highland. With the original aspiration and mission of “seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation” as the main line, it provides “one-stop” daily education services for Party members from grass-roots Party organizations and becomes a spiritual palace for the vast number of Party members to temper their steel-like original aspiration and mission and gain the wisdom and strength to forge ahead.
Running Hot Rolling Line
The 2050 hot rolling line was completed and put into production in August 1989. It was the first wide hot continuous rolling production line of more than two meters in China at that time. At present, with a production capacity of 6 million tons per year, it is known as the “golden production line”. Various grades of steel produced by this production line are widely used in large-scale projects such as the Bird’s Nest, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the East China Sea Bridge and the Yangshan Deepwater Port.
Sentinel Zoo
The Sentinel Zoo breeds animals such as sika deer, blue peafowl and pigeon with environmental monitoring and indicating functions. The quality of the environment is closely related to their survival and reproduction. The healthy breeding of these animals in Baosteel for 30 years fully shows the good ecological environment of harmonious coexistence between this modern urban steel mill and nature.
Lighting up the Science and Technology
Since its grand opening on December 28, 2023, Baosteel Park has been actively carrying out various activities of science popularization based on the steel industry and intelligent manufacturing. Many students visited Baosteel with their parents and learned scientific knowledge of the steel industry and felt the charm of technology in the activities combining education with entertainment.
