On the morning of October 6th, the F1H2O World Championship Grand Prix of Shanghai, China 2024 was successfully held. The opening ceremony was attended by Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai; Raffaele Chiulli, President of the General Assembly of International Sports Federations and President of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM); Nicolo di San Germano, President of the F1H2O Promotion Committee of UIM; Lavinia, Vice President of the F1H2O Promotion Committee of UIM; Tong Lixin, Director of the China Water Sports Administration Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China; Wang Ping, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government; Li Chenhao, Secretary of the CPC Baoshan District Committee; Deng Xiaodong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Baoshan District Committee and District Head; Li Ruilin, Director of UIM; Xu Bin, Director of the Shanghai Administration of Sports; and Wei Jinwen, member of the standing committee of the CPC Baoshan District Committee and political commissar of the Baoshan District People's Armed Forces Department. The opening ceremony was presided over by Deng Xiaodong.

At the event site, Xie Dong announced the opening of the F1H2O World Championship Grand Prix of Shanghai, China 2024.

Tong Lixin pointed out that the F1H2O World Championship is a world-class sports event that represents the world's highest level of powerboating. This event is a powerful and active response to the national call to "travel with events" and "bring sports events into attractions, blocks, and business districts". The holding of this event will help further enrich the spiritual and cultural life of Shanghai citizens, and more importantly, promote the vigorous development of water sports in Shanghai. Also, it will drive the development of related industries such as culture, sports, and tourism in Shanghai. By leveraging sports events to boost economic growth, Shanghai, the "Oriental Pearl", will shine even brighter to the world as the only city in China to host F1 championships for both land and water sports.

Li Chenhao said that Baoshan is built by water and thrives because of ports. At present, in line with the deployment of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Municipal Government, Baoshan is expediting the construction of "one hub and two districts" and building an international cruise tourism resort that integrates "majestic rivers, large cruise ports, ecological parks, commercial leisure, and shipping culture". Raffaele Chiulli stated that Shanghai is not only the center of China's economy, finance, trade, and shipping, but also an international metropolis that attracts global attention. The beautiful scenery of the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal makes it an ideal venue for the F1H2O World Championship. He hopes that racers from all over the world can perform at their best. By holding the F1H2O World Championship, the distance between Shanghai and the UIM can be shortened, thus establishing long-lasting friendships.

After the opening ceremony, the main race of the F1H2O Grand Prix of Shanghai kicked off. The calm waters of the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal suddenly became a lively scene of racing. Nineteen racers drove their boats out of the starting point, leaving behind white waves and engine roars. A passionate race began. After nearly 30 minutes of fierce competition, Rusty Wyatt from the Sharjah Team won the championship, followed by Erik Stark from the Victory Team and Jonas Andersson from the Vietnam Team in second and third place, respectively.

At the award ceremony, the attending leaders presented trophies and garlands to the winning teams and the top three finishers, and presented a flag to the representative of Zhengzhou.

Baoshan is a waterfront district that prospers because of ports. After more than ten years of development, it has built Asia's largest and the world's fourth largest cruise home port. It is reported that in addition to the passionate race held at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, the F1H2O Grand Prix of Shanghai also launched an official activity that has been ongoing for over a decade: the "F1H2O Future Stars - Hongyan Environmental Protection Team" youth activity. Students from all over the country contributed to promoting a green event and building a green Baoshan through activities such as the "Mini F1H2O" China Challenge", "Getting Close with the Chinese Team: Face-to-Face with Champion Racers", AI-enabled Interactive Creative Fun Marathon, "Report by Chinese Young Reporters in Shanghai: Me and F1H2O"; Experiencing New Energy and Feeling New Technology; and Green FIH20 - Environmental Protection at the Venue. These activities have elevated youth activities from mere physical participation to environmental protection ambassadors with technological creativity and international vision, inspiring students' enthusiasm and sense of responsibility to participate in social welfare activities and pay attention to environmental issues. At the same time, Baoshan District has launched a series of wonderful activities. A comprehensive carnival integrating sports competitions, cultural tourism, and leisure and entertainment was set up at the Zero Point Square adjacent to the port area. This achieves the synergistic development of "culture, sports, tourism, commerce, and exhibitions" by leveraging the spillover effect of sports events while making efforts to host the events.
