2024 Shanghai Book Fair Baoshan Branch Event & Baoshan Reading Month Event
On August 30, the 2024 Baoshan Reading Month event hosted by Baoshan Library came to a perfect end. During the one-month reading event, 200 wonderful reading activities have been carried out along Baoshan riverside area. A total of 1.2 million citizens participated in this event, feeling the charm of culture in the fragrance of books, which made this city more attractive.

During such key events as Shanghai Book Fair, the original picture books listed as intangible cultural heritage, namely Golden Embroidery Lady and Golden Dragon Boat, publicized the local intangible cultural heritage to the city’s readers, especially teenagers, so that they could feel the beauty of traditional culture in words and illustrations. Lectures on Chinese classic literature and meetings with children’s literature writers were also held, and every moment has condensed into a beautiful memory of Baoshan Reading Month.
At the closing ceremony, Baoshan Library simultaneously carried out the book exchange activity for “book lovers”, providing a platform for citizens to share idle books and exchange their favorite reading materials. Fellow readers can exchange books with each other to make friends who share the same interests. In addition, books that have not been successfully exchanged will be donated to libraries and schools in counterpart aid areas to support the development of cultural undertakings in border areas.

In terms of serving the public, Baoshan’s “Book Borrowing List” and “Reading Promoters” were released for the first time, which can recommend classic books in a more vivid way and encourage more reading enthusiasts to read good books and read more books, thereby giving full play to the functions of the library. In addition, the volunteers playing the role of “picture book mothers” in Baoshan Library regard picture books as boats and love as sails to shuttle between streets, towns, communities and shared study rooms, telling diverse stories that enlighten the soul. There is also a mother-daughter team providing services for readers at the window service center and the children’s reading area of Baoshan Library. Uncle Wei, who is 70 years old, has been working as a volunteer in Baoshan Library for more than 10 years, with nearly 20,000 hours of service. Therefore, at the closing ceremony, Baoshan Library specially set up a commendation session to express its deepest gratitude and respect to all parties in the most sincere way. The month-long book fair is attractive enough to keep the fragrance of books lingering in people’s hearts for a whole year. The 2024 Baoshan Reading Month event has come to a perfect conclusion, while the joy of reading will last in the hearts of Baoshan citizens. In recent years, Baoshan has continuously strengthened the supply of high-quality reading content and improved the reading service function of grassroots communities.
