Carrying Forward the Spirit of the War of Resistance and Gathering Strength for National Rejuvenation Baoshan District Holds Activities to Commemorate the 87th Anniversary of the All-nation Resistance
Eighty-seven years ago, the August 13th Songhu Battle broke out. Under the banner of the Chinese United Front against Japanese Aggression advocated by the Communist Party of China, the Chinese military and civilians united as one against the enemy, joining forces to overcome national calamity and building a solid wall of defense against aggression. In order to inherit and carry forward the great spirit of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and deeply mourn the martyrs and compatriots who sacrificed heroically in the war, on August 13th, Baoshan District held a series of grand activities to commemorate the 87th anniversary of the all-nation resistance against Japanese aggression and the August 13th Songhu Battle. Colleagues from revolutionary memorial halls across the country, researchers on the history of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, student representatives from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and people from all walks of life participated in the activities.
At 9 a.m., at the victory square of the Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (hereinafter as the Songhu Memorial Hall), accompanied by the solemn national anthem, the commemorative ceremony officially began. The entire audience sang "March of the Volunteers" loudly and presented flower baskets to the martyrs who sacrificed heroically during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Then they stood in silence to mourn together for the martyrs who sacrificed heroically in the war and unfortunate compatriots who lost their lives. People from all walks of life spontaneously came to lay flowers express their condolences for the victims, commemorating the martyrs and expressing grief.
Anziri Tuxunjiang, a student from Kashi, Xinjiang, said, "Today's commemorative event have made me realize more deeply that the happy life we have now is built upon the flesh and blood of our predecessors, who erected a steel Great Wall for us. I firmly believe that my classmates who accompanied me on this visit and commemoration will always remind themselves in the future to remember history and honour the martyrs. We will work hard and comfort the spirits of the martyrs with practical actions."
Mr. Zhong Yiping, the descendant of martyr Zhong Ming, came to pay tribute with his grandfather's photo on that day. In recent years, while collecting relevant historical materials, he has been committed to telling future generations the heroic stories and spirits of the martyrs during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. "I want young people to know that our predecessors were very brave and patriotic, willing to sacrifice their lives and shed blood for the country. After understanding this history, we will be more patriotic and work hard to contribute to the country," said Zhong Yiping.
Since the morning, there has been a constant stream of citizens visiting the Songhu Memorial Hall. Rrich historical materials, cultural relics and multimedia scene reproductions enabled visitors to immerse themselves in the two intense Songhu battles on the spot and gain a deep understanding of the whole process of the arduous 14-year resistance against Japanese Aggression. Many visitors came from other cities, including Feng Keyu from Chizhou, Anhui Province. He said, "The Songhu Battle was extremely fierce. Seeing this makes me realize even more that our happy life today is truly hard-won and they earned it for us with their blood. So we must cherish our current happy life and work hard to build our great motherland."
On that day, a study tour group from Taiwan visited the exhibition hall. They were deeply touched and gained a lot from the historical materials and precious cultural relics. Wang Siying, a student from Taiwan, said, "I think this is the best interpretation of the Chinese national spirit by our revolutionary predecessors. For me, the most important spirits I have learned are perseverance, tenacity, fearlessness of sacrifice, and serving the people."
In order to give full play to the role of red culture in cultivating souls and educating people, the Songhu Memorial Hall held special research activities on August 13th for teenagers. Students can participate in activities such as answering questions, collecting stamps, and exploring cultural relics in the hall, and watching the classic film "Defenders" about the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. In this way, they can deeply understand the history of Shanghai during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and appreciate the heroic deeds of the martyrs and strengthen their patriotic sentiments.
On the afternoon of the same day, the "Strengthening Belief by Studying History" historical discussion and achievement sharing session with the theme of "post-war trials and world peace" was held in the Songhu Battle Hall. Experts and scholars who study the history of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, colleagues from memorial halls and representatives of the public from all over the country reviewed historical facts in depth, felt the great spirit of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and discussed the historical role and practical significance of post-war trials. History is the best textbook and wake-up call. The August 13th Songhu Battle is a commemorative day of bloodshed, suffering, humiliation, resistance and sacrifice that must always be remembered. In the future, the Songhu Battle Hall will continue to serve as a patriotic education base and carry out various forms of ideological and political education activities, so that visitors can strengthen their belief in national rejuvenation while remembering history and carry forward the great national spirit with patriotism as the core.
