Baoshan Sees Resumption Voyage of Piano Land Cruise Ship
On July 24, a ceremony took place aboard Piano Land, the inaugural cruise ship of Astro Ocean Cruise jointly funded by China Tourism Group and China COSCO Shipping Corporation. Held at Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Port, the event celebrated the resumption of operations for the country’s first state-funded luxury cruise ship.
The event unfolded at the ship’s Xinghai Theater, capable of accommodating nearly 700 guests, and garnered significant interest from diverse sectors of society. Approximately 400 attendees graced the occasion, comprising Shanghai and Baoshan District officials, port authorities, industry association leaders, experts, key partner company delegates, representatives from news media, travel agencies, and new media.
Notably, at the event, the themed documentary film “Days on Wait” of Piano Land was premiered, vividly portraying the dedicated efforts of the cruise staff over the past four years in meticulous preparation for the resumption of operations. Furthermore, the main attraction, “Legend of the Silk Road”, crafted exclusively by the esteemed international entertainment team, captivated guests with its intricate costumes and graceful choreography, narrating the tale of the Maritime Silk Road.
At 12:30 on July 25th, Piano Land embarked from Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Port amid blessings and high expectations. With its operations resumed, the ship will embark on a series of themed voyages destined for popular tourist spots such as Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Sasebo, Kagoshima, and Jeju. Adorned in a distinctive Shanghai style, passengers will immerse themselves in scenes reminiscent of old-day Shanghai and experience life in this modern 20th-century city. Additionally, the cruise’s duty-free shops have undergone extensive renovations, promising passengers a privileged and comfortable shopping experience while onboard.
Piano Land, which premiered at the end of September 2019, showcases a gross tonnage of approximately 70,000 and accommodates up to 1,880 passengers. The ship features a classic design with teak decks and layered duck tails, highlighted by a 4-story cantilevered atrium capped by a Tiffany glass ceiling. A panoramic bar encircled by 270-degree floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a spacious waterfront promenade further enhances its charm. These elegant amenities aim to evoke the ambiance of British aristocracy for passengers. Currently, Baoshan is actively advancing its “northern transformation” strategy in alignment with the master plan for the development of the “Greater Wusong Area”. With the resurgence of international cruises, Baoshan is poised to capitalize on its early mover advantage to foster the development of cruise tourism, positioning it as one of the pivotal sectors driving industrial transformation.
