Study Trip Fostering Friendship Between Baoshan and Kargilik Teens
Recently, the 2024 Baoshan and Kargilik Student Study Trip has been held to foster stronger connections among teenagers from both regions and enhance their understanding of ethnic unity.
As part of the program, Baoshan welcomed 50 teachers and students from Kargilik, Xinjiang.
Jointly organized by the Office of Cooperation and Exchange Affairs of Baoshan District, the Baoshan Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, the Education Bureau of Baoshan District, and the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Office of Baoshan District, the event aims to provide teachers and students from Kargilik an immersive experience of local customs, urban culture and campus life of Shanghai and Baoshan. During the event, teachers and students from Kargilik visited key attractions such as the Shanghai Natural History Museum, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium, and Oriental Pearl Tower to observe first-hand the economic, scientific and technological development achievements of Shanghai’s reform and opening up. In addition, trips to the Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall, which commemorates the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Wusong Paotaiwan National Wetland Park and Yangtze River Estuary Science and Technology Museum provide a deeper understanding of Baoshan’s rich history and culture.
Kremaz Abdukyem (transliterated), a participating student, expressed her enthusiasm: “Shanghai is a charming city that immerses me in its unique customs and culture. When I learned that I could attend this summer program in Shanghai, I was filled with excitement. From the moment I set foot on this land, my journey to explore this bustling city began.”
The teachers and students from Kargilik were particularly impressed by the campus life experience in Shanghai. During their visit, they sang Xinjiang songs and participated in art classes alongside local students, gaining first-hand insight into the aesthetic education programs offered to Baoshan students.
Zhang Bohui, another student from Kargilik, shared his thoughts: “I am delighted to participate in this study program and thrilled to be in Shanghai. I hope that friends from Shanghai will also visit Xinjiang someday.”
As the study program coincided with the Dragon Boat Festival, the students had the opportunity to learn how to wrap zongzi, a traditional rice cake for the festival, with the help of local residents. During the event, leaves danced in the students’ hands and ropes tying the zongzi moved swiftly, resulting in a variety of zongzi in different sizes. These zongzi, wrapped with good wishes for well-being, happiness, and harmony, filled the air with a strong festive mood.
Teacher Gulzarinur Maimaitiyeli (transliterated) expressed her gratitude, saying, “First of all, I would like to thank the Aid Xinjiang Office for giving our students the opportunity to participate in this study program. Although the activity lasted only eight days, we experienced the prosperity of Shanghai and the hospitality of its people. I hope that in the future, I can welcome teachers and students from Shanghai to Kargilik, so we can engage in deeper exchanges and communication.”
Since 2017, Kargilik County has annually organized the Baoshan and Kargilik Student Study Trip for local primary and secondary school teachers and students. This initiative aims to build a bridge of friendship between the two regions and foster mutual progress.
