January 18 marked the 100-day countdown to the return of the Royal Caribbean international cruise ship “Spectrum of the Seas” in Shanghai after the pandemic. The return of Spectrum of the Seas, a quantum ultra ship, would usher in the return of leading international cruise ships to China and the recovery of China’s luxury cruise industry under its continued commitment to opening up.

Spectrum of the Seas is a cruise ship specially designed for the Chinese market. Built at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany with a cost of USD1.25 billion, the ship has a registered tonnage of 168,000 tons and is 348 meters long and 41.5 meters wide, with a capacity to accommodate 5,064 passengers in 2,124 rooms distributed in its 16 passenger decks. There are 33 types of rooms available, including balcony staterooms, family staterooms, double-story duplex suites, and ultimate family suites, 76% of which are suites and staterooms. It also features ultra-luxurious, private suite enclave comprising golden and silver suite accommodations situated at the forward section, which are entitled with special keycard access and a separate restaurant and lounge, along with other exclusive amenities. With up to 33 dining options on board, from original Italian restaurants and steakhouses to Chinese hot pots and Japanese Teppanyaki, guests can enjoy cuisines from all over the world during the voyage. There are as many as 33 kinds of entertainment. During the day, guests can board the 91-meter-high North Star, which is a viewing capsule holding the Guinness World Record as the tallest viewing deck on a cruise ship, and enjoy an awe-inspiring view of the sea and the sky, or go surfing, skydiving, or rock climbing on the deck. Passengers can also entertain themselves in the indoor sports hall, the largest of its kind on a cruise ship, which provides activities including bumper cars, basketball, table tennis, skating, fencing, archery, and esports. In the evening, passengers can enjoy immersive, digital shows with Vistarama technology, including The Silk Road, Showgirls and The Effectors. The shopping “streets” aka the Royal Esplanade is the largest duty-free shopping street onboard a cruise ship, where the latest styles of top-class, high-end and trendy brands of watches, jewelry, bags, cosmetics, etc can be found. There is also a wide range of entertainment for children and teenagers from 6 months to 18 years old, including more than 20 kinds of parent-kid activities, which creates an international cultural atmosphere of teaching and play.
