Baoshan Zhi Garden opened today to show the charm of Tang Dynasty
On June 15th, Baoshan Zhi Garden, located in the Ancient Town in Luodian, officially opened. The simple and magnificent Tang-style architecture combines the exquisiteness and elegance of Jiangnan gardens, which brings unique beauty and Buddhism touch to this Tang-style garden.
Overlooked from above, Baoshan Zhi Garden, which covers an area of more than 30 acres, and the Tang-style buildings of Baoshan Temple on the west side go nicely with each other. Among them, the Golden Pagoda with a height of 55.3 meters is the crowning touch of Baoshan Zhi Garden.
It is the highest point of the landscape and buildings of the Zhi Garden and echoes the Main Hall in the courtyard of Baoshan Temple, which is at an angle of 45°. The Golden Pagoda is also the first newly built seven-story wood-structure Tang pavilion-style high-rise building in China and even in the world in the recent thousand years.
“The architectures of the garden adopt the structural technology of traditional Chinese wood structure, and all the wood structures are connected by mortises and tenons, which reproduce the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty and present the style of Chinese traditional architecture.” The relevant person in charge of Shanghai Yuangou Architects and Consultants Co., Ltd. introduced.
The architectural layout is centered on the Golden Pagoda, with the Golden Pagoda, the Lake Center Pavilion, the Pine Pavilion and the Buddhism Chan Pavilion arranged in turn from south to north, among which the landscape is arranged in groups. Trees and flowers and the unique scenery of water flowing between stones can be seen everywhere. Visitors can walk along the north-south central axis for other scenery, or walk along the zigzagging path to enjoy the beauty of the Tang-style garden.
In 2011, Baoshan District People’s Government allotted nearly 40 mu of land on the east side of Baoshan Temple as the land for the Zhi Garden. Zhi Garden, taken from the Buddhist scripture “Jetavanavihāra”, means the garden of moral education and the lecture hall of goodness. There are Golden Pagoda, the Buddhism Chan Pavilion, the Pine Pavilion, the Lake Center Pavilion, the Covered Bridge, the Flower Rain Pavilion and other buildings in the garden. The combination of Zhi Garden and Baoshan Temple also constitutes a complete Tang Dynasty architectural art expo park.
The Invitational Exhibition of Paintings by Famous Shanghai Artists, “Elegant Collection of Zhi Garden”, also kicked off in the Pine Pavilion at the opening of Zhi Garden, Baoshan. Thirty-eight famous artists from different generations in Shanghai are invited to exhibit more than 70 excellent works, showing the artistic exploration of the ancient meaning and innovation of Chinese paintings by Shanghai painters.
In recent years, Luodian Town has continuously optimized and upgraded the new spatial pattern of “Meilan Lake, Innovative Medicine, Ancient Town and Rural Style”. In the future, Baoshan Zhi Garden will become a new regional cultural landmark integrating culture and science popularization, intangible heritage exploration, and health and leisure.
