Baoshan’s Lantern Festival Features a Sense of Ritual
During Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month, "The light is brightly, tonight the no-go area is opening." How can Luodian be absent from the Lantern Festival! "Music vibrates from the flute; The moon sheds its full light; While fish and dragon lanterns dance all night." As night falls, the scene of the 2023 Lantern Festival themed "Literary and Ancient Luodian·Hometown of the Flora" has been brilliant and magnificent.
"On the night of Lantern Festival, the streets and lanes of Luodian are covered with colorful lights, which light up the night sky and make people bright and cheerful." Based on the ancient cultural charm and prosperous human life of "Gold Luodian", and combined with the brand-new achievements of "Meilan Lake, innovative medicine, ancient town charm and country style" through transformation, development, inheritance and innovation, the thematic lantern group interprets the folk stories of the flora welcoming the Spring Festival and praying for a fruitful year along with a strong national tide trend.
The messenger of the Spring Festival "Luo Duoduo" wore new clothes in the New Year. The staying-up messenger "Jade Rabbit Duoduo" dressed in cotton bubble skirt and decorated with rabbit ears, and the celebrating messenger "Moon Rabbit Mianmian" dressed in flora Hanfu and holding traditional rabbit lanterns, prayed for the New Year together.
Around the main lantern, "Luodian Lantern" (a representative item of Shanghai municipal level intangible cultural heritage) and traditional red lanterns for Chinese New Year formed an umbrella-shaped array of lanterns. There are paper-cut lanterns themed "having abundance year after year", lanterns with figure paintings themed "young children celebrating the New Year", animal shape lanterns themed "colorful golden koi" and corolla lanterns themed "good luck and happiness", showing the colorful charm of Luodian lanterns.
"Linglong Naji" Luodian Tower Lantern originated from Luodian folk "Zhaotian Lantern". The tower lantern is shaped like "Linglong Tower" in the south of the Yangtze River, with seven floors and no less than six exquisite lanterns hanging on each floor. The dragons on both sides of the tower look vivid and seem to fly into the sky.
The corridor lanterns in the shape of two dragons frolicking with a pearl themed "dragons in the sea of flowers" can be traced back to the traditional lanterns engraved with double dragons, which adopt the hanging design. The dragon head and tail are pasted with traditional steel skeleton silks and satins to make simulation modeling, while the dragon body is winding out with lantern arrays. With a total length of nearly 20 meters, the two dragons are playing with a pearl to pray for a new year of good luck and good health.
The "Duoduo Lantern House of Intangible Cultural Heritage" is in the cartoon shape of Jade Rabbit, decorated with some aerospace elements. Based on Baoshan and Luodian's intangible cultural heritage creations and special cuisines, the lantern house aims to build a New Year store with multiple functions.
In addition to Huashen Square, there are lanterns in the shape of staying-up “King Kong Rabbits” in front of Baoshan Temple and other colorful lanterns in the Nianlun Square near Meilan Lake, which together outline the new look of "Literary and Ancient Luodian".
