In order to further promote the achievements of Shanghai's "South-North Transformation", the Online Exploration of Shanghai of the 5th CIIE “An Hour With TouchShanghai—Strolling along Wenzaobang River in Baoshan, an Experience of the South-North Transformation” " was held at 1:30 p.m. on November 9, 2016. Foreign journalists broadcasted the current achievements of Baoshan's "Northern Transformation". The live show started from the waterway of Wenzaobang, the mother river of Baoshan, retracing the past while looking forward to the transformation of Baoshan in terms of ecology, culture, people’s livelihood, sci-tech innovation, and urban planning.

The official of Baoshan District Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources talked about what the major problems remain in the spatial and ecological governance of the Wenzaobang, where we can find breakthroughs, how to innovate when planning for the transformation and development of Baoshan, and how Baoshan will continue to renovate Wenzaobang into a river of sci-tech innovation.

The person in charge of Wisdom Bay and JY Wisdom Bay answered how the Wisdom Bay combines cultural creativity and technological capabilities in industrial restructuring and urban renewal. He reflected on the entrepreneurial journey in the past to see what kind of transformation wisdom had been nurtured, and what surprises it will bring to Shanghai’s urban development in the future. He also introduced JY Wisdom Bay’s new mission in the process of Baoshan's North Transformation. JY Wisdom Bay is at the opposite side of the river. As successful as the transformation of the Wisdom Bay is, the JY Wisdom Bay has its unique highlights and planning, and the two combined will exert influence across the peripheral areas in the transformation process.

During the live show, the official from Dept. of landscaping center construction of the Baoshan Landscaping and City Appearance Administrative Bureau introduced about landscaping achievements in Baoshan in recent years. There are two must-visit scenic spots in Baoshan -- Paotaiwan Wetland Forest Park and Gucun Park. Baoshan has made efforts to continuously improve the ecological environment, to include "park +" element in the construction of Baoshan. He also touched upon future plans for Baoshan’s ecological development.

The three aforementioned guests also responded to questions raised by the foreign press, such as "How is the construction progress of Baoshan Ring Park Belt during the 14th Five-Year period? What else is on the horizon?", "What are the future plans of Wisdom Bay in Baoshan during the 14th Five-Year period?", "how to integrate Baoshan's ‘North Transformation’ planning into the Wenzaobang River development?", etc.

Wisdom Bay Sci-tech Park

Wisdom Bay, located at No. 6, Wenchuan Road, Baoshan District, covers an area of 18 hectares. Its first phase was inaugurated in September 2016. In response to the call of Shanghai for urban transformation and renewal, Wisdom Bay, the core of the No. 1 Tech-bay of Baoshan District, makes overall arrangement for industries around new technologies, and pays special attention to 3D printing, intelligent manufacturing, VR/AR, artificial intelligence and other fields, so as to deeply integrate "cultural creativity and technological innovation", provide platforms for enterprises to innovate and create, form industry clusters, and promote the upgrade of sci-tech innovation and cultural creativity.

The park is converted from former lands for industrial purpose. The design of the park takes into consideration the structural characteristics of the original industrial buildings. Through renovation and reconstruction, the old factories are built into a cultural and technological complex with six functions, including the park, the community, the education area, the exhibition area, the commercial area, and the sports-oriented leisure area.

JY Wisdom Bay

Adhering to the concept of openness, JY Wisdom Bay opens up the original relatively closed factory space, releases the space of original streets, alleys and courtyards, and creates a diversified space integrating park, community, education (campus) area, exhibition area, commercial area, and sports-oriented leisure area.

Through linkage of public spaces, and the injection of cultural elements, the traditional closed spaces are opened with greater mobility and connectivity. A "smart space" integrating smart office, cultural creativity, fashion and leisure is created. JY Wisdom Bay puts people first, adheres to the concept of innovation and integration, and creates a dynamic and comfortable office atmosphere. Going forward, the park will integrate its superior resources of sci-tech innovation and cultural creativity, and build itself into an innovation highland, a source of creativity and a merry land of entrepreneurship.

Golden Furnace

This is the former site of Shanghai No.1 Steel Plant. In 2020, through the transformation of industrial remains, 2,500 m³ of blast furnace is transformed into "Golden Furnace · China Baowu Steel Expo Center". The Center covers an area of around 60,000 m², and 44,700 m² of building area, meeting the needs for cultural performances and information release.

With its unique modern industrial architectural style, Golden Furnace has become a popular new landmark. It has undertaken a number of wonderful business activities and large-scale conferences and forums, attracting a lot of industry giants to come and visit. The 2ed Sino-us Economic and Trade Forum of the Western Returned Scholars Association, and the Conference of Global Low-carbon Metallurgical Innovation Alliance were successfully convened in the Expo Center, so were the Huawei Carbon Zero Shanghai Summit, Tsinghua University Shanghai Alumni gathering, Mass Music concert, DICKIES 100th Anniversary. Golden Furnace witnesses the transformation of the old industrial base, and becomes a showcase for the future transformation of steel culture, Baowu culture and Wusong Innovation Town.

Paotaiwan Wetland Forest Park

Paotaiwan Wetland Forest Park is a rare wetland park in the main urban area of Shanghai, the only wetland at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Huangpu River, and the only wetland park in Baoshan District. We all know that wetlands are the "source of fresh water" and "the kidney of the earth". They stand side by side with oceans and forests as the three major ecosystems of the earth. Their main functions are to protect biodiversity, regulate the atmosphere, purify water quality, and regulate runoff, serving as important basis for survival and sustainable development of mankind. The total area of the park is about 106 hectares, of which the wetland area is more than 60 hectares. The shoreline stretches for about two kilometers. It is full of typical estuary landforms, such as tidal trenches, ripple marks, steep slopes and other muddy tidal landforms. It also has different types of wetlands such as marsh and tidal flats. At present, there are about 241 species of plants in the park, including about 133 species of wetland plants. About 144 species of birds have been recorded in the park, including 47 species of water birds and 97 species of land birds. 10 species of national second-class protected animals have been recorded. 74 species and 10 species of macrobenthos have been found. It is fair to say that the animal and plant resources are abundant, forming a magnificent wetland landscape at the Yangtze River estuary. Paotaiwan Wetland Forest Park combines the protection with reinvention of the wetland, the waterfront space with the wetland landscape, and the vertical design with the flood control planning, to realize the harmonious coexistence of mankind, nature and ecology.

Gucun Park

Gucun Park is a pearl on the ecological park belt surrounding Baoshan district. It is a large-scale suburban forest park integrating ecological protection, landscape viewing, leisure and fitness, culture and recreation, tourist resort, etc. Gucun Park covers a total area of 430 hectares, and the total area currently open is 341 hectares. There are children's playground, oriental bird world, water kayaking and other entertainment and leisure facilities, as well as rose-themed gardens, Muhlenbergia capillaris flower fields, etc.

Gucun Park is molding the flower-enjoying brands of “Spring Cherry Blossom”, “Summer Lotus”, “Autumn Osmanthus”, and “Winter Plum Blossom”. It is famous for Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival, which is a major cultural and tourism event in Baoshan in every spring. The variety and quantity of cherry blossoms in the park are the highest in Shanghai. In the future, online cultural and creative products themed "Cherry Blossom Season" will continue to be launched to drive the cherry blossom industry growth.
