Salute to All Frontliners Who Brighten Our Path Forward

A poster with frontliners was repeatedly reposted on social media as people’s way to say thanks to those who brighten our path forward during the pandemic. When we are sleeping at home, frontliners, including doctors, nurses, volunteers, and community helpers, are still fighting the virus.

Volunteers were fully recruited within 4.5 hours after Baoshan’s volunteer notice was released. People kept ringing to ask about the volunteering work. They want to do everything they can to help control the pandemic.

“I can do some volunteering work since my schedule is flexible,” says a stay-at-home mom. “I can provide some professional assistance to the community after work”, says a doctor.

“Hi! Your deliveries are here” —a familiar sound to people living in Xinjiayuan Block VIII. It turned out the delivery helpers were their neighbors. People living next door now become a member of the Baoshan Anti-covid Volunteers Team.

The first group of 75 volunteers started their work right away after tested negative twice.

Lv Jidong is one of the volunteers. He applied for working in the residential complexes under lockdown. Wearing cumbersome protective suits, he organizes residents to do nucleic acid tests and deliver supplies...working over ten hours a day without complaint. “As long as the pandemic is controlled, all our work is worthy,” he said.

Huang Hongbin and He Meidan volunteered in Songnan Town. Before starting the work, they and other volunteers took a group photo. Though fully covered by protective suits, they were all thumbs up to show their confidence in controlling the pandemic.

At the Medical Laboratory of the Wusong Branch, Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, technicians are racing against time. To deliver test results as soon as possible, they worked out new ways to improve the testing efficiency.

Policemen are the backbone in fighting the covid-19. They go where there is epidemic, and fight it till it perishes. All policemen of Baoshan Branch of Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau work day and night on the front line: they deliver supplies to residents, calm people down, answer their questions, and direct traffic to ensure the city operates orderly.

On the evening of March 15, Party leaders at schools across Baoshan were anxiously waiting for messages from teacher volunteers on the front line. “Our work went very well today” is all they expected.

“On the morning of March 15, we reported to duty. Team leader then divided us into different groups before taking us to residential complexes to help with the nucleic acid testing work. Working door by door, our goal is to leave out no one. We completed the first round of testing until the early morning. We will do the second round of testing on March 16. Everyone is exhausted, but we all hold the fort without complaint. This is our responsibility to society. We hope our efforts can bring safety to all,” writes Zhang Huanhuan, a teacher volunteer from Wusong Experimental School.

Many of the volunteers have worked on the front line for days. They cannot go home to take a good sleep like us.

Salute to all the frontliners who brighten our path forward! Thank you!
