Baoshan has beautiful natural scenery along the riverside and coastal areas as well as diversified cultural landscape. These architectures have quietly stood in Baoshan for years like silent poems, three-dimensional paintings, and frozen music.

During the Shanghai Tourism Festival, Baoshan launched a cultural tourism campaign themed with Readable Architecture and Cultural Travel in Baoshan. Let's visit these architectures and feel the charm of Baoshan.

Route #1: Stroll along the rivers near science and innovation parks and experience the arts in industrial buildings

Recommended scenic spots: Bandao 1919 Cultural and Creative Park, Wisdom Bay Science Park, and pavement along the Miaohang section of Wenzaobang River.

Wenzaobang River, mother river of Baoshan, was one of the battle fields of Songhu War of An-ti Japanese Aggression. Along the river warehouses of cotton, local products, and fruits were built after the reform and opening-up due to the convenient river transportation. With the urban development, these old warehouses gradually withdraw from the stage of history and have been renovated.

In Bandao 1919 Cultural and Creative Park, vintage and fashion collide in the hundred-year buildings. In the former Shanghai Eighth Cotton Textile Factory, there are over 30 historical and modern buildings of various architectural styles. Elements of cotton textile factory including textile machines, coal conveyer belts, slag outlets, and wooden shuttles are preserved. Now buildings in the textile factory are turned into cultural and creative workshops, art display spaces, bookstores, and bars, attracting visitors.

The Wisdom Bay Science Park is transformed from the warehouse of the Third Woolen Mill and into an industrial tourism landmark. Colorful containers are stacked and become a beautiful landscape. The Chinese 3D Printing Culture Museum in the park has an amazing collection of nearly 1000 3D printing exhibits. In the park, the Sky High Line Park and the Perpetual Wheel, the first transforming bridge adds radiance and beauty to each other.

The pavement along the Miaohang section of Wenzaobang River is across the water from Wisdom Bay. You can find interesting scientific innovation elements everywhere in the public spaces.

At the connecting area of the north entrance of the Intellectual Industrial Park, there are seats named “wave of science and technology”, which is full of a strong atmosphere of science and technology innovation.

Route #2: Walk in the streets of old towns to explore architectures of Jiangnan style in the Golden Luodian Town

Recommended scenic spots: Luodian Old Street, Baoshan Temple

Luodian Town was honored “Golden Luodian” in history. It is an ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River (Jiangnan) which has three bays, nine streets, and eighteen alleys. It is said the name Luodian was originated because a person named Luo Sheng opened a store here and then gradually formed a market more than 700 years ago. In Ming and Qing Dynasty, Luodian was a cotton-producing area, known as the hometown of the “flower god”. Walking in the old street of Luodian, you will learn the past and present stories of Datong Bridge, Gengpu Bridge, and Xin Bridge, and learn about the history of this ancient town. You can also visit the Cheng’en Cottage, Dunyu Cottage, and Luoxi Cottage and learn about the red spirit of former underground CPC in Gongda Sauce Shop.

Next stop is Baoshan Temple where presents the perfect construction of mortise and tenon structure. It is the only temple that has won the “Luban Award” in China. Densely-distributed halls and pavilions, traditional Sangharama vertical axis layout, mortise and tenon structure made of African safflower pear wood, magnificent palace shape, scattered ancient buildings, and dedicate design of the details such as bucket arch, tail, and ghost tile present the wisdom and exquisiteness of traditional Chinese architectural techniques.

Route #3: Visit the riverside of Baoshan to learn the history and story

Recommended scenic spots: Wusong Paotai Bay National Wetland Park, Shanghai Songhu War of Anti-Japanese Aggression Memorial Park, Baoshan Binjiang Park & Wusong Cultural Landmark, and Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal

The ancients wrote that Baoshan was beautiful in the books. Flowers and bamboos on the banks on the Yangtze River were shaded by trees. When the sun rose, colorful clouds would rise. They called it “auspicious cloud in Baoshan”. Several hundred years later, the river is still turbulent, but smokes of the war have dispersed in the clear and majestic siren of the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. Baoshan, the “gateway to the sea”, is integrating fashion with tradition, innovating, and becoming an international cruise tourism resort in Shanghai.

Wusong Paotai National Wetland Park, the most prestigious wetland park in Shanghai, is full of river scenery along the riverside pavement. The industrial mine remains have been innovatively built into a fairyland-like “little Jiuzhaigou”. The lighthouse of Wusongkou stands on the bank of the river that extends into the sea, guiding the direction for the ships passing by.

In Shanghai Songhu War of Anti-Japanese Aggression Memorial Park, there is Yubei Pavilion that tells the origin of the name Baoshan and relics of Baoshan’s ancient city wall built in the 16th year of Emperor Jiajing in Ming Dynasty. In the memorial hall of the park, Knot 1937, Songhu Battle Song, and other art installation are silently telling the stories of the war. Strolling along the riverside of Baoshan, you can learn about the history and explore the cultural heritage of Wusong.

During the Shanghai Tourism Festival, the campaign themed with “Readable Architecture and Cultural Travel in Baoshan” also includes trip shoot activity. Pressing the shutter of your camera in the architecture, you listen to the stories of these architectures told by the staff and have a different travel experience.
