2021 National Taekwondo League of Middle School Students (Eastern Division) and Training Camp for Primary School Students was successfully held in Changqing District, Jinan City, Shandong Province.

Over 650 competitors of 48 teams from seven provinces and municipalities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shandong Province were participated in the league. The team of Baosteel New Century School consisting of 22 players obtained 24 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals, first prize of Group A of primary school category, Group B of middle school category, and mixed group of Taekwondo dance, and second prize of Group B of primary school in the fierce two-day competition.

As a school with high teaching quality, Baosteel New Century School upholds the education philosophy of “everyone has love and everyone is excellent”, has launched various featured projects based on students’ needs, and cultivated socialist successors with all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic grounding.  

In September 2017, Baosteel New Century School introduced the Taekwondo project. In April 2018, in order to implement the Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council on Strengthening Youth Sports and Teenagers’ Physical Health, the school led to establish the Taekwondo Alliance of Schools in Baoshan District under the guidance of Baoshan Administration of Education and Baoshan Administration of Sports. The Alliance is established with the purpose of “focusing on cultivating talents and inspiring young people” and on the basis of regional alliance platforms to further promote competence-oriented education and deep integration among different schools.

The Alliance consists of five primary schools, 12 middle schools, and four high schools in Baoshan district. It is aimed to achieve the goal of “gathering sports resources of member schools to create better future for students” and realize resource sharing, featured education, and common development.

Baosteel New Century School has a leading modern Taekwondo training gym in Shanghai. The gym is equipped with complete advanced equipment and designated by the Middle School Students’ Sports Association of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission as a place for holding major competitions. Two municipal competitions and three district-level ones were held here.   

Meanwhile, the Alliance is dedicated to carrying forward the Taekwondo culture in schools. The work meeting of the Alliance Principal Council is regularly held to promote the cultivation of counsellors of the Alliance and physical education teachers. Professional coaches are invited to deliver trainings for the counsellors in schools. National Taekwondo judges and experts are hired to give training courses on passing the Taekwondo judge certification exam. These actions help gradually complete the development mechanism of the Alliance.   

Leveraging resources of the Alliance, Baosteel New Century School has rapidly developed and achieved impressive performance. By now the school has organized students to participate in competitions at all levels, obtaining 51 national gold medals, 31 municipal gold medals, and 41 gold medals at district level. The school has developed six national first-level athletes and eight national second-level athletes. Four athletes have been enrolled in the Taekwondo reserve team of Shanghai and one of them is a full-time player.

In the future, the school will continue to adhere to the Taekwondo spirit of "courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit" and help realize self-development of the students and the development goal of itself. Meanwhile, the school will work hard to make Taekwondo into a branded project and cultivate students who have love and are excellent.
