At the end of February, Base Zero of Circum-Shanghai University Science Park located at No. 668, Shangda Road was officially launched, and the first batch of student innovation and entrepreneurship teams of Shanghai University settled in. Since the opening of Circum-SHU Science Park last November, resources have been gathered and projects have been implemented rapidly. A development blueprint has become clearer: by 2025, we will strive to transform 200 scientific and technological achievements of Shanghai University and cultivate 1,000 technology-based enterprises.

 Vastness is one of Baoshan's advantages. Baoshan Park of the Zhangjiang High-tech Industrial Developm Zone, located in various parts of Baoshan District, promotes the gathering of emerging industries with the unique "chain thinking". At the “chain nodes” such as three advanced manufacturing bases and three high-tech service industry belts, last year, Baoshan Park included two major transformation sectors—Nanda Smart City and Wusong Innovation City. At present, Baoshan Park accounts for about 10% of the total area of Baoshan District, basically covering all parts of Baoshan.

A project is a growth point, and a batch of projects is a growth pole. In 2020, 4,921 enterprises were newly registered in Baoshan Park, including more than 400 high-tech enterprises covering biomedicine, artificial intelligence, new materials, and the Internet of Things, accounting for 50% of the total number in Baoshan District; the tax revenue generated by enterprises in the park exceeded 8 billion yuan, accounting for 20% of the total in Baoshan District.

Circum-SHU Science Park will become the first station for the transformation of scientific research results of teachers and students

Base Zero-Three of Circum-SHU Science Park integrate scientific and technological achievements exhibition, entrepreneurship services for teachers and students, office space sharing, and alumni activities. They will become the first station for the transformation of scientific research results of teachers and students of Shanghai University. Last year, the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Medicine and Engineering was established at Shanghai University. With the help of the incubation space of Circum-SHU Science Park, many innovative achievements are being implemented and transformed in the Park. The Brain-Controlled Robotic Arm Grasping System is one of the first achievements. By putting an EEG cap on the brain, the system can analyze the human intention information and control the robotic arm to grasp, seizing the market opportunity of brain-computer interface technology.

With the aim of becoming the main front of the scientific and technological innovation center, an important incubator of research findings of local universities and an industry highland with economic scale of over 100 billion yuan, the Circum-SHU Scientific Park features Dachang Town, Baoshan Urban Industrial Park and Nanda Ecological Smart City as key regions and will be gradually expanded to other key industrial parks such as Northern Shanghai Biomedicine Industry Park and Shanghai Industrial Park of Robotics as well as Wusong Innovation City.

The park’s development will focus on four areas: first, accelerate the transformation of technological achievements from SHU; second, further tap the rich scientific and innovative resources in SHU’s multiple disciplines; third, provide more individualized services to SHU teachers, students and alumni and to relieve students of concerns over entrepreneurship; and fourth, cater to enterprises within the park to stimulate the innovation and entrepreneurship vitality.

In an effort to build a public industrial service platform in the park, SHU’s research institutes on new materials, intelligent equipment and unmanned systems, and biomedicine were established. With a key focus on new materials, AI and biomedical R&D, these research institutes are to provide better innovation and entrepreneurship environment for enterprises in the park.

"Internet +" empowers the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries

Less than a 10-minute drive from Gucun Park is the Shanghai Industrial Park of Robotics, one of the three advanced manufacturing bases of Baoshan Park. It can be identified from the yellow factory buildings of Fanuc. Last December, Phase III project of Shanghai Fanuc started, becoming Fanuc's largest robot base outside of Japan, called a “super smart factory” in the robotics industry. After completion, the annual output value is expected to reach 10 billion yuan.

Currently, technological innovation space equipped with robots and other intelligent equipment in the Shanghai Industrial Park of Robotics covers 350,000 square meters. In addition to Fanuc, SH Corporation, a leader in the domestic automotive assembly industry, Fronius, a global leader in intelligent welding, Quicktron, a leader in intelligent warehousing, YHOK, a leading domestic industrial robot R&D and manufacturer, and the National Robot Test and Assessment Center have officially settled in the Park.

The Graphene Functional Platform, one of the first 18 functional platforms in Shanghai, settled in Baoshan Park three years ago. Now, it has accumulated a considerable number of technical and corporate resources, and 9 pilot lines have been built. The ultra-flat copper-nickel alloy single crystal wafers, 8-inch graphene single crystal wafers and germanium-based graphene wafers developed by the platform have reached the international leading level and have achieved small scale production.

With the rise of the Industrial Internet, Baoshan Park actively embraces the online new economy. According to statistics, the park has nearly 300 online new economy enterprises that integrate new-generation information technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things, with an overall economic scale of over 100 billion yuan.

Industrial projects run at "Tesla speed"

Earlier, the Recombinant Protein Drug Industrialization Project of Shanghai Bao Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. settled in Luodian Industrial Park, Northern Shanghai Biomedicine Industry Park. The project is expected to receive a total investment of more than 700 million yuan and cover a total construction area of about 75,000 square meters. It is planned to promote two new drug projects in Phase II/III and multiple products under research to large-scale industrialization and marketing in three years.

The Northern Shanghai Biomedicine Industry Park in Baoshan Park is the closest to the downtown among the five major biomedical industrial parks in Shanghai. In the past two years, a number of large projects have been launched: the SPH-CanSino COVID-19 Vaccine project introduced in 2020 covers an area of 50 mu, with a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan; the Concord Max project covers an area of 100 mu, with a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan; The long-term planning of Medi Park project is to cover an area of 200 mu, with a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan...
