On January 8, the Shanghai Education Guidance Center for Children with Autism was officially established in Baoshan District. It is learned that this is China’s first education guidance center for children with autism established by a provincial-level education administration. Located in Shanghai Baoshan Peizhi School, the Center will receive operation guidance from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and be managed by the Education Bureau of Baoshan District.

As a professional education guidance institution for children with autism in Shanghai, the Center aims to improve the professionalism and services of special education and provide more targeted teaching and professional services for children with autism. The establishment of the Center is of great significance for addressing issues about the education of children with autism. It will take the lead in addressing bottlenecks, exploring new ways, sharing experiences, and promoting effective practices about special education in Shanghai and beyond.

The Center carries four functions about the education of children with autism, studies, guidance, training and services. It is learned that the Center will focus on researching and studying topics regarding the education of children with autism; regularly conduct municipal education seminars in this regard; carry out special evaluations of education for children with autism and provide guidance on establishing the program of “one archive for one student with autism”; strengthen exchanges and cooperation with special education guidance centers in various districts and hold consultations with autistic children by online and offline means to meet their special needs; regularly conduct training sessions on knowledge about autistic children education for teachers to improve educational intervention; organize volunteer medical and educational consultations for autistic children; build education resources pool for autistic children; launch autistic children education forums regularly; use multiple approaches to disseminate knowledge and information about autistic children education.
