In September 2020, the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, together with 16 districts of the municipality, started the selection of “Great Places Around the Corner” by Shanghai citizens. The selection was conducted through online voting by citizens and expert appraisal of 124 candidate places. Over 200,000 votes were cast. After the online voting, the organizer invited local cultural and tourism experts and scholars as well as media representatives to carry out onsite inspections of the candidate places. At last, 50 places won out.

Baoshan District has three places on the list and they are Juquan Cultural Street in Gucun Town, Sanlinqiao Sports Cultural Park in Gaojing Town, and Tangwan Daylily Culture Park in Luojing Town.

Juquan Cultural Street in Gucun Town

Located in Gucun Town, the Juquan Cultural Street used to be called “Juquan Hometown”. Boasting a history of five centuries, the street carries the memories and nostalgia of the Liu Family.

The street has one- or two-story architectures of the Ming and Qing styles on both sides surrounded by rivers, creating a classic water town landscape. These architectures house dozens of shops of time-honored brands, outlets of modern commercial brands, and various cultural and art places, together making the street an embodiment of Haipai culture.

Sanlinqiao Sports Cultural Park in Gaojing Town

Having a land area of nearly 66 mu and a gross floor area of about 31,600 m2, the Sanlinqiao Sports Cultural Park boasts convenient transportation adjacent to multiple residential compounds and a complete set of facilities. Within the park, there are a 500-square-meter lake, a 1,200-square-meter outdoor square, 400-meter running tracks which are surrounded by diverse leisure facilities such as ping pong tables, slides, single-plank bridges and high bars, providing a green zone for residents to exercise and enjoy leisure time.

Sticking to the mission of spreading “sports culture”, the park also launches diverse activities on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis according to actual conditions. For example, it has organized activities themed on solar terms, performance events, weekend market fairs, as well as special events for promoting sports and culture co-launched with governmental bodies and social organizations, including the “Technology Week”, “Innovation House”, “Intangible Cultural Heritages”, archery contests, and amateur basketball tournaments.

Tangwan Daylily Culture Park in Luojing Town

In Tangwan Daylily Culture Park in Luojing Town, you will find lush forests, clear rivers, large tracts of arable land that are planted with daylilies, a representation of mother's love in traditional Chinese culture. This is China’s first daylily-themed park boasting over 100 varieties of daylilies, accompanied with plank roads, flower-ornamented bridges, daylily fields, themed sculptures, rivers, flower beds, greenhouses, and demonstration flower fields, creating a picturesque landscape. In May and June when daylilies are in blossom, tourists all gather here from other districts of Shanghai and other cities in the Yangtze River Delta.
