2 Museums in Baoshan Awarded Second-class National Museums
The result of the fourth batch of National Museum Grading Evaluation has been released. After comprehensive evaluation, 2 national first-class museums, 6 national second-class museums and 1 national third-class museum are added in Shanghai. Among the 6 national secondary museums, 2 museums in Baoshan, respectively Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and Shanghai University Museum. Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression
Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is the only special memorial hall reflecting two Songhu Battles. It is located in main battlefield of the bloody war defended by military and people. This memorial hall adopts the architectural style of tower hall integration, with a building area of 3,490 ㎡, an exhibition hall area of 1,500 ㎡ and an outdoor exhibition area of nearly 8,000 ㎡. It is characterized by the hall-and-park integration, the culture–and-green combination, and the history-and-art development, thanks to Shanghai Memorial Park for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
Since its completion and opening on January 28, 2000, the museum has received wide concern by people from all walks of life. In 2014, it was named as the first batch of national Anti-Japanese War memorial facilities (sites) by the State Council. It is the Shanghai patriotism education base, the Shanghai Party history education base, and the Shanghai volunteer service base.
The memorial hall has 11 floors, with the first and the second floors for exhibition area, the third floor for collection area, the fourth floor and above for tower building. The theme exhibition of "Songhu Battle" on the first and the second floors consists of seven parts including the outbreak of Anti-Japanese war, the August 13 Songhu Battle and the climax of Anti-Japanese and national salvation movement in Shanghai. The exhibition is mainly composed of cultural relics, historical materials and pictures, there are documents including telegrams, warrants, campaign summaries, letters from officers and soldiers during the Anti-Japanese War, military maps drawn by the enemy, our party and Germany before the war, commendation orders, movie films, ordnances, uniforms, Japanese flag, etc. Besides, the exhibition truly and objectively displayed the original historical appearance of August 13 Songhu Battle and revealed the historical truth of "Blood drowned Songhu" to the world with the new art works, the interactive means of sound, light and electricity, the new media guide system and the advanced exhibition concept, which encourages Chinese descendants to remember history, memorize martyrs, cherish peace and create the future as well as strive for the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.
The outdoor exhibition area involves the sculpture "Knot 1937", the “Songhu Battle Song” relief wall, the “Ripples in History”, the “Confluence” fire of victory, the "Alarm Bell", the "Anti-Japanese War Culture and Art Wall" and the "History Gate", the "Shanghai Songhu Anti-Japanese War Monument" and the “Songhu Army and People Resisting Japanese Army”. As a key cultural museum in Shanghai, Shanghai Songhu Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall always pays attention to its positive role in strengthening the construction of social spiritual civilization, practicing the socialist core values, carrying out patriotic education and promoting the advanced socialist culture, and strives to build itself into one center and four bases, namely the Songhu Anti-Japanese War History Exhibition Center and the Songhu Anti-Japanese War History Research Base, the National Patriotism Education Demonstration Base, the National Defense Education Base and Cross-Strait Cultural Exchange Base.

Shanghai University Museum
Shanghai University Museum is composed of Shanghai Style Culture Museum, Shanghai Dialect Culture Exhibition and Experience Hall, Shanghai University History Museum, Qian Weichang Memorial Hall and Suyuan. It is the Shanghai Patriotism Education Base, the Shanghai Social Science Popularization Demonstration Base and the Deputy Director Agency of the Special Committee of University Museums, the Chinese Society of Museum.
Suyuan: Shanghai University (1922-1927)
Shanghai University Museum was established in 2008, its foundation stone of main building laid in October 2012 and the construction completed in 2017. Its soft operation was launched at the end of 2018. The museum, located in Qianweichang Library with an area of 5,000 square meters, has the basic display, the temporary exhibition hall, the collection warehouse, the office area, the audience service area and the security area. It also includes "Suyuan: Shanghai University (1922-1927)" outdoor exhibition zone with an area of 1,800 square meters.
As a museum of a comprehensive university named after Shanghai, Shanghai University Museum plans to take the Shanghai-style culture as the basic exhibition theme. In the future, it will present works of Shanghai modern urban popular culture and popular art, reflecting Shanghai's cultural heritage and Shanghai-style cultural spirit. Meanwhile, it will reflect the history of Shanghai University and commemorates the life of old headmaster Qian Weichang. Temporary exhibitions will be held regularly to serve the discipline construction, teachers, students and alumni and open to the society free of charge.
