Rainbow Flower Art Kindergarten was established in 1990, and was awarded as one of the first “Model Kindergartens in Shanghai” in 2001. It is also the first municipal model kindergarten featuring art education in Baoshan District. At present, there are three divisions of kindergarten: Baoshan campus, Baolin campus and Baishayuan campus under construction.

After more than 30 years of reform and innovation, Rainbow Flower Art Kindergarten adheres to the idea of “persisting in educating people through art and leading a colorful childhood life”. On the premise of ensuring the balance of various fields and meeting the needs of children's all-round development, the kindergarten has made an in-depth exploration in the field of children's art education. It develops the curriculum concept into “caring for children’s nature, creating art enlightenment and integrating the comprehensive development”, and condenses the goal of children's development into “cultivating healthy and intelligent children with ‘childlike innocence, kindness, beauty and joy’”. Through research, the kindergarten has created a small community project of “Art Salon” and “Class-based Art Appreciation” based on children's independence. Teachers and children work together to construct and render the artistic environment, which leads children to play art in the form of games. Children enjoy playing art, experiencing art and expressing art through independent and spontaneous games.

In recent ten years, based on the hot and difficult problems in the field of preschool education and the needs of kindergarten development, Rainbow Flower Art Kindergarten has made an in-depth study in the evaluation field of kindergarten education with municipal projects as the starting point, and formed the concept of “expected” evaluation and a more rigorous and scientific kindergarten-based evaluation scheme. Its research achievements have won the first prize of the 11th municipal outstanding educational achievements in education and scientific research and the first prize of basic education achievements in Shanghai respectively. In 2017, Rainbow Flower Art Kindergarten focused on the common improvement of regional education quality, and initiated the municipal project “Practical Research on Interactive Monitoring Between Kindergartens of Kindergarten Education Quality”. In 2021, this project was awarded the first prize of the 7th School Scientific Research Achievement of the Municipal Academy of Educational Sciences. As one of the promotion and application projects of Three-year Action Plan for Preschool Education in Baoshan District (2021-2023), this achievement provides a reference and practical paradigm for the future research on preschool education quality in Baoshan area.

The kindergarten has won many honors such as “Shanghai Civilized Unit”, “Shanghai Teacher Development Demonstration School and Standardized Training Base”, “Shanghai’s Third Batch of Model Schools for Educational Informatization Application”, “Shanghai 12th Five-Year Home Schooling Experimental Base”, “Shanghai Community Eugenics Guidance Service Unit”, “Baoshan District Education System Officials Training Base”, “Baoshan District Art Characteristic School” and “Baoshan District Excellent Teaching and Research Group”. As a result, it enjoys a good social reputation and brand influence in the whole city and even in a larger scope.
