I. About Us
Baoshan Second Central Primary School is in Miaohang Town, Baoshan District, Shanghai and a public school whose students are mainly from relocating households and children of local peasants. In recent years, due to the favorable policy of Baoshan District Education Bureau on promoting intensive development in basic education, we have extensively conducted curriculum and teaching reform, actively explored an approach of modern school governance that adapts to the characteristics of the new age, and strived to formulate a featured talent development system represented by the “thumb-up culture”. We have finalized the development ideas in the aspects of curriculum, teaching, management, and culture, reformed, and innovated, realizing improvement in teaching quality and social influence. We have rapidly grown into a high-quality competence-oriented experimental school with high awareness, satisfaction from teachers and students, and social recognition in the district in recent years.
II. Our Philosophy
We insist on that the idea comes first. We have come up with the school governance idea of “dynamic management”, integrate it into all aspects of teaching activities such as “dynamic curriculum construction”, “dynamic teacher team building”, and “dynamic student growth”, and form a thumb-up culture that emphasizes “appreciation education”. We adhere to the teaching philosophy that “everyone is important, can bring changes, and plays a role”, set a goal of “cultivating students who are upright, elegant, smart, and magnanimous”, and strive to achieve the purpose of “laying a foundation for every student to live a better life, enable every teacher to realize self-development in career, and let every teacher and student exert the talent”.
III. Our Brand
Our brand project is the thumb-up evaluation system of student comprehensive quality which focuses on the interest, habit, emotion, and self-efficacy of students in learning. Examination score is not the only indication for evaluating students. Every student has personal development. We use the IT platform to evaluate students, diagnose students’ problems by visible data and provide suggestions to them so as to make the evaluation convenient and efficient.
IV. Our Curriculum
After recent years of curriculum reform and development, we have formulated a SHINE curriculum framework with the value orientation of “developing appropriate courses for every student” and with the “thumb-up baby” as its mascot.
SHINE (sunny, happy, independent, nice, and excellent) means that we hope the students can develop sunny, happy, independent, nice, and excellent characters via learning the courses.
The curriculum framework consists of basic curriculum, extended curriculum, and research curriculum. The most distinctive one is the school-based extended curriculum which includes art-centered charm courses, sports-centered dynamic courses, and science-centered intelligence courses, enabling every student to build self-confidence, exert their potentials, and outreach interests.
V. Our Honor
We have been recognized as “Shanghai Model School of Code of Conduct”, “National Handball Promotion School”, “Shanghai Interest-Based Sports Pilot School”, “Shanghai Model School of Rule of Law”, “Model Unit of Shanghai Education Commission”, and “Shanghai Model School of Family Education” since 2015. In 2019, we were honored “Yangtze River Delta Base for Excellent Backbone Teacher Serving Temporary Positions” and “Practice Base for Young Cadres of Baoshan Education System”. In 2020, the teacher training project “Construction of Micro-course Group of Teaching Practice for Common Growth” developed by a backbone teacher group led by our principal Ms. Tan Lili was honored “Excellent School-based Research Curriculum” of the 13th Five-Year Plan of Baoshan District. The school was awarded “Shanghai Excellent School for Teachers’ Professional Development” by the Shanghai Education Commission in the same year.
