In 2023, Baoshan District boasted 22 cultural centers (stations), including 1 district cultural center and 21 town/subdistrict community cultural activity centers. There were also 22 libraries (stations), consisting of 1 district-level library and 21 town/subdistrict libraries, with a total collection of 2.0366 million physical and electronic books, and there were 1.1017 million checkouts recorded. The main public cultural infrastructure in the district includes the Baoshan District Convergence Media Center, Shanghai Songhu Memorial Hall for the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Shanghai Baoshan International Folk Arts Exposition, Baoshan District Cultural Center, Baoshan District Library, and Shanghai Liberation Memorial Hall, covering a total area of approximately 70,000 square meters.To enhance public cultural services, a total of 2,775 cultural and tourism events were held throughout the year. The district is home to 149 social and cultural entertainment venues, 72 internet cafes, 29 cinemas, 151 printing companies, 80 retail outlets for publications, 14 performance troupes, 3 theaters, and 4 art galleries.There are 90 cultural heritage protection units (sites) at various levels within the district, including 9 municipal cultural heritage protection units, 8 Baoshan District cultural heritage protection units, and 73 Baoshan District cultural heritage protection sites. In 2023, “Aesthetic Education for Better Life”, Baoshan’s public aesthetic education initiative, was recognized as a typical case of China’s high-quality development of cultural public services, and “Luodian Dragon Boat” was nominated as a case for the “China Folk Culture Inheritance and Development Brand” at the First China Folk Culture Brand Development Conference.
