Natural Environment
The territory of Baoshan is an alluvial plain of the Changjiang Delta. It's formed by constant depositing of silt brushed down mainly by the Changjiang River, under the joint function of river stream and sea tide. The part of land is boundless stretch of plain at the Changjiang Estuary. Generally speaking, the terrain slopes gently from northwest to southeast, at an elevation from 2.8 meters to 4.1 meters. The north is a little higher than the south. The elevation is about 2.4 meters to 3.1 meters.
The district of Baoshan borders on the river and faces the sea. River courses are dispersed vertically and horizontally. Therefore, there is enough water not only for residents' living but also for agricultural producing. Besides, the rich soil in Baoshan District is quite propitious for various crops to grow, such as grain, cotton, rape, vegetable, fruits, and so on.
