The district of Baoshan is situated in the north part of Shanghai. It's composed of two main parts: land and islands. The northeast part of the land is close to the Changjiang River, and the east to the Huangpu River. The south part abuts on four districts as Yangpu, Hongkou, Zhabei, and Putuo; the west marches with the district of Jiading; while the northwest corner adjoins the city of Taichang, Jiangsu Province.
Located in the intersection of the Changjiang River and the Huangpu River, Baoshan District is the seaway gate of Shanghai with a total area of 425 sq km and a population of 1.22 million. In the seaway, it is connected to over 400 harbors in 164 countries and regions with the throughput of containers accounting for over 70% of the aggregate of ports in Shanghai and a developed multi-modal transportation and inland navigation network; in the transportation, a network knitted by railways, subway lines and expressways has been formed. The district is also within half and hour's drive from both Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport.
