The Top 10 Beautiful New Spaces Worth Encountering in Baoshan Released
In Shanghai, an activity of "archaeology of Shanghai-style cities" attracted the participation of the general public.
Recently, after more than 10,000 votes and selection of experts, the top 10 beautiful new spaces worth encountering in Baoshan District were released. Ten spaces, including Wisdom Bay Art Center and Dacheng Hall of Confucius Temple, were selected to facilitate citizens to better savor the city’s history and enjoy the urban art.
Mr. Yang, who lives in Baoshan No.8 Village, said, "In Baoshan, we can not only get a great view of the world from the cruise port, but also look closely at the scenery around us to meet more beautiful spaces along the street."
Sanlinqiao Central Plaza is Shanghai’s first creative park in the theme of sports and culture
Among these 10 beautiful new spaces worth encountering, there are several parks that has been trending on-line, such as the Wisdom Bay Art Center, which held the "No.1 Bay Art Night" series of National Day concerts, 2020 Blackpool Dance Festival and Wisdom Bay Nightlife Festival, and the Sanlinqiao Central Plaza in Shanghai's first creative park in the theme of sports and culture. There are also some cultural landmarks with historical breath, and most are "new spaces" updated or created by the city.
Tang Jihui, vice chairman of Baoshan Writers Association, said that nearly 300 years ago, Dacheng Hall of Confucius Temple was the hall where Baoshan students worshipped Confucius, Zeng Zi, Mencius and many other philosophers. Nowadays, Dacheng Hall stands in a beautiful and quiet garden, and the "Dacheng Academy" — a lecture hall equipped with calligraphy, tea art, photography, guqin and many other art categories has been built.
Kids Museum of Glass
Shanghai Museum of Glass, which focuses on children's interests, is deeply loved by children and parents. Zhang Lin, director of Shanghai Museum of Glass, said that six years ago, a 60-year-old glass furnace workshop was transformed into a museum loved by six-year-old children. A new version 2.0 of the Kids Museum of Glass is expected to become the coolest children's museum for kids.
In the Starry Sky High Line Park, you can stop to enjoy the scenery along Wenzaobang River
The Starry Sky High Line Park, located on the bank of No.1 Bay, was formerly the wharf of Shanghai Handling, Storage and Transportation Corporation, which was built in the 20th century. With the adjustment of industrial structure, the old wharf is idle and the old warehouse is closed. The tall gantry crane and the winding overhead viaduct constitute the main body here, and the viaduct skillfully connects the tower crane with various scenic spots. The urban features and characteristic buildings on both sides of the Wenzaobang River complement each other, which makes the vision of "you see the scenery on the boat and you are the scenery on the shore" a good harvest for citizens and tourists when they visit the Park or take a rest.
Wenzaobang was once one of the battlefields of the Battle of Songhu, and it was also a place for residents on both sides of the River to live and rest. The Miaohang Waterside Terrace, located in the "active" section of the landscape running through the shoreline, was originally the loading and unloading wharf of cotton warehouse, and has been abandoned since it was developed and transformed into an office park. After the landscape of Wenzaobang is upgraded, the fitness runway and leisure walk are connected in series to serve as the green space and waterside terrace on the basis of the original wharf platform, which becomes a public space open to the outside world 24 hours a day. It provides citizens with a good place to walk along the river bank, exercise and keep fit, relax and entertain, and it is also a "grand stage" for them to walk and fish, play saxophone and dance Chinese square dance.
"Last year, I was invited to be a design expert of the art community in Baoshan Creative City, and participated in the design and construction of projects such as 'Miaohang Science and Technology Innovation Waterfront Art Community along Wenzaobang River' in person. Wenzaobang River is the mother river of Baoshan, and a witness to the historical development and social change of Baoshan. The renewal of urban space has transformed and regenerated this waterfront. Ramblers, night runners, saxophonists and others enjoy a better life in this 24-hour public space. The cranes and cement piers left by the wharf ruins have been transformed into functional facilities such as landscape bridges and observation platforms. Industrial remains retain the memory of the times of urban development, and people can feel the warmth brought by the Mother River at any time." said Jin Jiangbo, deputy dean of the Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University.
Yueshi Village Cultural Space
Another updated place is Yueshi Village Cultural Space, which was originally an abandoned old warehouse in the village. After being transformed by the designer, this "dusty" old granary has become a brand-new fashion landmark in the village and a cultural "reception room" for the villagers. In this elegant space, various manual training courses, health lectures and performances have been held one after another.
Zhou Jiangang, a villager in Yueshi Village, said that the "cultural space" at the doorstep not only meets the public’s basic social needs, reading books and newspapers, gossiping and other demands, but also helps people often enjoy high-quality cultural service activities, greatly enhancing their sense of cultural acquisition.
In the future, Baoshan will continue to rely on the profound red culture and industrial civilization, and combine the different characteristics of each space to continuously improve its services and expand its cultural connotation, so as to truly connect the beautiful spaces worth encountering in series to help more people feel the creation and edification of beauty.
